Got jumped when running

Whilst out on the trails tonight i felt a large bang on my head and i went down, then i was kicked in the ribs/chest by 3 chavs for about 30 seconds non stop before i scrambled away and they ran off.

i'm so angry, i dont feel safe running the trails ive ran for 2 years now

That is awful Marc. Have you contacted the police? Depends on where you live but if you're semi rural they often have  agood idea of who the local idiots are - or can even check cctv. might make you feel better running there again in the future ?

iv'e made an incident report, but there is nothing to say really, it's a dark trail, certainly no camera's. i didnt see who they were, but i've logged it, so if anything else happens there or anyone suspicious is seen there its more likely to be treated with urgency.

i'm ok, pride is hurt more than anything, oh and it fucked my average pace....

Marc -  this has happend a couple of times round East London, it's the latest version of "happy slapping" ie the twats film themselves attacking random, innocent runners and then put the film on You Tube etc.....The Social network sites are actually being quite helpful at the moment so if they did film it there will be a good chance they can be traced and nicked.

yeah it wont stop me, just have to stick to the main roads, and day time. i only went tonight because of the unexpected heat wave today.

i work for myself so i can always find time to run in the day times.

Sorry to hear about this Marc, it must be very distressing.

Might be an idea to get in touch with local running clubs, so they can let their members know to avoid that area.

Why not just try and find a couple of mates to run with in future? I'd guess your average group of chavs wouldn't try it on with with more than a single runner.

Sorry to hear about your incident, it just beggars belief. Try not to let it spoil running for you (I know it's easier said than done). It really might be worth talking to a local paper and warning them as well.

Really sorry to hear that Marc. Definitely not a good experience. Hope you're ok, but do make sure you get checked out if you wake up feeling rough tomorrow. And as the others have said, don't let it put you off. Or as my brother would say ... illegitimi non carborundum.

ribs are a bit sore and my ankles are swollen, but i'm ok, nothing major. few days rest from running i think, i have a spartan race this weekend, i wonder how many of them tough guys could start and finish that?

Similar thing happened to me a few years back, some chav hit me from behind so i chased him and then 2 other mates were around the corner with bottles, at that point I thought I'd change my long run into a tempo run in the other direction.

It made me so angry though, but the ironic thing is if you give em a slap it would more likely be you getting in trouble.

That's awful. I think a lot of runners can get a bit complacent about going out in the dark - I don't even notice it any more - but we've got to stay safe. The areas I run in are well lit and populated, but that doesn't mean nothing will happen, even if I don't have anything on me except the clothes I'm wearing.

Take to the same trails every so often, but with a few running-buddies....

Sending one ahead as a decoy, then... "Sorry, Officer, but I tripped up & accidentally smacked him in the face"

I'm sorry to report that I've had one incident, I was running home from work a couple of years ago

I was passing through the market-place (which has permanant stalls), & a chav/teenager tripped me up, whereupon his mates did the proverbial 'p*ssing themselves laughing'

Still, a belt in the mouth for the perpetrator soon silenced them, & the look on my face must have made the other 3 decide not to act in their friends support. Thankfully, otherwise I'd have undoubtedly been in BIG trouble, & had a real kicking'

I still go through it, but haven't seen the same ones (not that I know of), but always steer my way carefully through the stalls avoiding figures sitting on them
