Cant coment on Manchester but did Edinburgh last year as my first Marathon, the out and back bit is a little boring and demoralising for us slower runners but friendly atmosphere all the way round. There is a relay marathon at the same time so expect fresh runners joining at different parts of the course. Bit busier than Liverpool but it was the heat that got to me but still managed to finish, support was good with people handing out sweets and hosing the runners to keep them cool.
A friendly, well organised and enjoyable race and im going back in 2013 having said that I think Liverpool was better.
London for me (after 5 years of trying) , did Edinburgh this year as my first marathon, really enjoyed it & Edinburgh is a very nice place to spend a few days. Can't be dealing with where the Manchester marathon finishes . I may do an off road Marathon next year also & then maybe Snowdon.
Loved doing the Liverpool one & not ruling it out for next year but If I do Snowdon then think they are to close together (for me anyway!). Will certainly do the Liverpool half again.
King kenny if you are planning an off road marathon I highly recommend the Yorkshireman, small friendly beautiful but tough. very cheap but you wear your t shirt with pride afterwards.
I think I may be doing hell up north too after doing it last year was good fun
Dear all - it would seem that the local authority held a meeting yesterday about the 2013 marathon and I await further instruction about the event.
I would like to advise as to when entries will be open for next year but I require formal approval about any future marathons before making any announcement.
Approval for RunLiverpool to deliver the event may or may not be granted.

Mish - The Yorkshireman was on the 9th sept, it was very hot and hard this year but there was drink stations with cake and sandwiches etc. Charlie who organises it is a really good guy, it is done through Keighley and Craven AC. usually about 300 runners. there is also a half marathon. which I am going to do this year. The marathon is only 15 quid so you cant go wrong really (unless you get cramps at mile 18 and you are then in a whole world of pain by mile 25) nah it was good really and you will definately enjoy the last 800 m it is all up a really really steep cobbled hill ha ha
what's the mistake?! my entire team at work are now inspecting the medal, is it something to do with the route, that's the only thing we can maybe think of!

I don't make the rules, just abide by them.
After this years event only you and your team can deliver it. It was First Class, been reading the ratings they all seem to be pretty good -Well Done ,I run for Liverpool RC and we had over 30 members running, many doing their first marathon and to hear their stories and experiences is fantastic
Is it wrong after running 26.2 miles on Sunday for me to feel too lazy to just nip upstairs to inspect my medal
YES! I've been nipping upstairs @ approx 15 mins intervals all week just so I can have a loving fondle or stare at my medal which is still just perfect in my eyes

Yes, I've spotted the two errors as well. Wouldn't have noticed them if nobody had mentioned them though.

I'm with Kandinsky on this one.
I've signed up for Manchester, but really hope to be back in Liverpool next October!
