Jason D 2.8m slow for me with the club tonight- my hammy definitely not liking hills at the moment, so I quit early- no point in pushing things??Sports massage booked for next Monday
Fair does Jason D I havent even attempted hills yet. Just pan flat running.
Andy, I shall race you along with Gaz... I shall be starting Borders League, will see you there. Me, in me new snazzy box fresh Adidas that I intend to buy - just like the Elites... Brooks aren't lasting long enough for me so back to the trusty A.D.I.D.A.S for little me. Got longer out of them.
Heart rate advice please kidda. I ran before, HRM on, did 3.3 miles recovery run at 9:30m/m and heart rate was 62% heart rate reserve. Is that right for recovery? Heart rate stayed same throughout, didn't get higher at all. On my 9 miler week before Chester, it also stayed same. What does that mean? I thought heart rate supposed to gradually go up because of dehyration etc?
Are well this is bloody great so now I know as well as GazOc beating me I will have Heow kicking my arse to. Oh the joy. Does anyone else want to have a go, I'll have ya, I will, honest, C'mon lets be avin ya then
Atleast I may be okay In gwersyllt on saturday ha ha you 2 avent thought of that one have you mwa ha ha ha haaaaaaa.
heow when you did your 9miler before Chester with the same HR throughout thats what yer want. When you say I thought heart rate supposed to gradually go up because of dehyration etc? ?? thats the reason people slow down in marathons because there not aerobically fit enough. Its good that you can run with same HR throughout runs. Thats is what Hadd training does for runners. It makes there aerobic systems much more efficient basically.
When doing your long runs (over 16 miles) do you carry a water bottle ?
I find it hard to run with one, should i run laps (3 mile laps) and just put a few bottles on the farm gate or is it ok to run 20 miles without water ? i think not ?
I carry water belt or stop at shop however, when I restart distance training I'm going to nip that in the bud (stopping at garage etc) on long runs cos its not teaching me to run continually long. We don't get a break at marathon to buy water! Winter it's easier cos need less water, however decent 4 bottle water belt needed, my two bottle ones not enough. A Camelbak hydration rucksack definitely a consideration too.
No way would I run 20 miles without hydration. Practise fuel and water straight away. Sip of water every mile is what I do. Ashman are you in a club? If not, why don't you join Helsby...?
I got the Nathan 2 bottle carrier and also got to add on water bottle point to it so can go with 4 bottles. Usually find that 2 does up to 18 miles and at a stretch 20 but usually take 4 for 20. The Nathan Speed 2 is a great carrier with sensible sized bottles so you dont get weighed down
You lot drink alot of water! Is it just water or some kind of sports drink? Even though I was only sipping water at Chester and not gulping, it was sloshing around in my stomach and making me feel quite ill! I could even hear it sloshing around! I would have loved a pint of milk but for some reason that wasn't on offer....!
GazOc yes I'll be at Alyn waters. Go on then make it a double wammy saturday and Sunday. Then you can say "I've beat that andy on more than one occasion" *prays legs drastically get better today* be warned I have been known to suddenly come into form
Wow you lot likes the water dont ya. In winter I never bother if its less than 20m in the summer if its hot I'll not hesistate to take a bottle on even just a simple 6miler. Depends what the weather is like.
Andy, I reckon you're performance would be enhanced with water my dear! Watch those Kenyans and how they drink during marathon. Every mile or two, own drinks laid out and sip, then gone. It's vital! I buy Nuun tablets which are fantastic.
Ashman, it's a very friendly club (I'm in it!) and if you got into borders league and cross country and fells during summer, you'd be a machine in 12 months!
I agree with HeOw on this one - far better to be hydrated during race (not over hydrated) than to not be - study I read somewhere said 10% under hydration on a half marathon can lead to a 1% fall in performance - which will probably mean a PB to most people.
Not that your performance isn't top notch anyway Andy or 15 BUT you truly would benefit from being hydrated. It's science.... No Acp, just relied on water but when I'm doing a brutal hill trail run, they do help as I sweat loads. I notice the difference.

NeOw
I live in Ellesmere Port and don't have access to get to Helsby.
Is Helsby a friendly club
Same as Andy if not hot I don't bother with water on long runs...just make sure I'm well hydrated before and after.

Did you use those Nuun tablets in the marathon HeOw?
