I started off a bit too fast (easy to do, with all those runners around you you can get carried away) but I think I got into my pace at about 3rd kilometre. I'm afraid I don't know what you mean by corrals, though...
At some races runners are asked for a recent race time. Runners are put into groups (corrals) based on those times with faster runners at the front. The corral number or letter is on your bib and the entrance to the corral is supervised.
When I registered for the Bath half I think they asked me for my expected finishing time and I was wondering what they were going to do with that information.
I gave myself two weeks off after the GSR, so it's back out on the roads on Tuesday working towards Romsey 5 mile at end of Jan and then Bath in March.
Just got back from my first run after at least three week break (well, more of a jog than run, really), did 6K, 12K planned for tomorrow... All in all, wasn't as painful as I expected it to be
I recently signed up to the bath half marathon. It's my first one so I'm a bit nervous as I've never run that far before! I started training a couple of months ago but had the beginnings of shin splints so had to stop for a while and have just started again! Hopefully I'll be injury free this time!
Thanks for your advice. I'm following a nine week training program I found on this website. So far I'm not having any problems but if I do I will definitely look into compression sleeves. I think the problem was I was also doing bootcamp training so I think I was doing too much. I've now cut out the bootcamp and am just running.
My training is going pretty well. I ran a full in early November and then took 3 weeks to recover from that. So I've been training for Bath for about 2 weeks now.
Hi guys I'm using the smart coach as well. Did the GSR in october and this will be my first half so hopefully the extra 3 won't be too bad.
Struggling with motivation at the moment I really don't like the cold. I'm sticking with the plan but it's not very enjoyable at the moment.
I normally play tennis in place of my short 2 mile run but the weather seems to have conspired to rain on those days for the last two months so think that might be a bit of the motivation problem.
I too have entered Bath Half for my first HM. I am running 3 times a week at the moment 16 miles in total.
I did my first 10k event a fortnight ago (62mins).
I then gave myself a week off. I am now panicking that I've not got enough time to up my mileage in preperation for Bath, I want to do it so bad, but I struggle with self belief.
My brother (Towner) is very supportive of my running, but I find I can run better without him as I can settle in to my own pace.
Any tips on what I should be aiming to achieve in the next few weeks??
or something else that suits you. As a first-timer, you should probably follow an established plan so you can avoid running too much, too little, too fast, take cut-back weeks, etc.
I've just signed up for this and will be running for CLIC Sargent. It's my first half marathon (I've done a few 10k's) and to say I'm nervous is an understatement!
Having survived the typical family Christmas and sent my daughter back to uni today I intend to start a proper structured training routine on Saturday. I'm hoping that gives me enough time to complete 13 miles in a one piece (I'm a pragmatist - I'll settle for finishing ATM).
I've been reading 'Half Marathon, - you can do it' by Jeff Galloway. Has anyone else followed his plans?

I only started traing this week Kaz, Sure you will be fine.. Good luck with it!
As it's my first half marathon I've been training for a while since before xmas but am really struggling with motivation at the moment (perhaps the result of starting training too early).
Just have to think about the fact that people have already sponsored me, so get head down and hit the roads .
Haha doubt that Nelly did 1:34:45 last year at bath but ran 1:30:11 at Gosport so hoping for that magic 1:30. Would be chuffed with that, especially as I'm only 18.
Dan , obviously at the other end of the age scale to me, doing my first half marathon at 53 so I'll be really happy to get under 2'10" but 2'15" will do.

How is your training going?
I'm using a Smart Coach half program.

No need to panic. There's about 12 weeks to go, which is plenty of time. I would pick a standard half program for guidance. You can pick one of these
