What method do you use to stop sore nipples when doing marathons? Vaseline or plasters?

  • I use a sports braimage
  • I've had mine surgically removed...
  • I chop mine off with a rusty spoon
  • Vas or bodyglide but they do toughen up after a while.  Especially if you wear crocodile clips the rest of the time.
  • Ditch the top and pin the number to your chest or you could just try plasters.
  • greese yourself up with vasaline it works. Alway keep it hardy as well for emugancies. image
  • Seriously though, vas etc does work.  I don't bother on my nips any more as they have toughened.  Don't forget to use the stuff elsewhere too.  As your runs get longer, you'll find a new place you'll need it each week.  For me, it's toes, insteps, inner thigh where the shorts liner rubs, small of back where sweat runs follow that sweat, ahem, further down.  Some need it under arms.  Bodyglide really is better than vas as it stays there and is far less messy to apply, but it is considerably more expensive gram for gram.  It's worth it though.
  • Mr S used to have this problem, but now uses Decathlon's own brand anti-chafing cream, which I'm sure will be cheaper than Bodyglide and works really well for him.

  • Joggers nipple, pfffffftttttt image

Try catching your nipple bar on the door in the morning when your still half asleep trying to get out of the bedroom............ image

Actually I use a piece of Elastoplast/sticky tape - the cloth sort not plastic
  • vaseline has always worked for me
  • Vaseline works for me when it is dry, but when it rains heavily no amount of vaseline will work - (always in tech shirts)

  • Micropore tape works a treat.
  • Bit grim but my mate swears by compeed blister plasters - painful to remove though apparently!
  • Compeed is a little excessive. Zinc oxide tape, or similar, will do the job perfectly well.
  • +1 for the micropore tape.

I normally double over a piece to actually cover the offending areas and then tape it in place, that way not as painful to remove later in the shower!

Are they trying to heel their nipple back to skin?

image TMI for a Monday morning!

My Squeeze uses wide micropore tape.

  • Micropore tape is far superior to Vaseline in my opinion. it stays on for 4 hours +, comes off easily and is far less messy. I hate having vaseliney fingers when running! for half marathon + distances it is useful for underarms though.
  • + 1 for Vaseline
  • No potions or creams, just a tight technical vest (it doesn’t move, so it doesn’t rub) and loose technical shorts with a liner – if you get the right fit and materials you don’t need anything else IMHO.

  • A bra made from a ping pong ball cut in half and some knicker elastic.
