OK, so the compeeds are on, the soggy socks are in the washer and the brief but necessary self pity has been wallowed in. Moan over, now lets really nail it next year.
So - roll up, roll up, for a summertime toddle along the South Downs way next year, complete with:
- a block booking at a hotel near the start, so all the teams are together the night before
- a similar booking in Brighton for the Sunday evening, to avoid zombie driving and make sure we have a bloody good social afterwards
- support teams nominated, organised and equipped well in advance
- structured training walks arranged over the course of the year in areas of outstanding natural beauty the length and breadth of the country.
and you get all this for the paltry effort of agreeing to a 100km walk. Or run walk, as some people now have PBs to beat.
This thread can be for signups, volunteering, discussion, planning, ranting, raving, and anything TW 2004 related.
BUT NO SOBBING OVER 2003!
That was then, this is now, and next year is going to be different, even if the conditions are twice as bad.
First up - me. And I suspect I know a few others who'll be coming along.

you are right
no more self pity
Im in
and ill consider run walk on certain bits
I reserve the right to wallow until I've had a good night's sleep, but you can definitely count me in for next year.
Would you like me to organise a walk for next month, or shall the first one be the responsibility of the originator of this thread, who does after all live in an area of natural beauty?
you wanna be in a team?
(quakes, ive already done over 6 hours walk run with you)
And im not mad
well, mad angry, yes
but not mad, mad
Not sure whther to try the walk or do support. I'll think about it :-)
Either way I'll be there.
who else?
ta slowboy
this is at least positive
You think you can cope with 100km worth of me Benz?
well, Ill run away from you if icant
might do a decent time then:)))
I'm getting a full time au pair this year so will hopefully have a bit more freedom.
as were the other support teams
But, coordination between a few support teams sounds good
Peeps can rest then
Tim, who else for the team then, and please dont suggest any of your really fit friends
Hippo, we have to be positive! Rufty tufty northern lads aren't allowed to cry, or at least not for long, so having gone through sad, I'm now onto mad - as in angry - which can be a much more positive motivator.
Certainly respect the event a lot more now though.
<<meerkat looks in horror at what she's just said>>
Target for 2004 is - everyone who starts, finishes, successfully.
may weep later
hellooooooooooooo meer
meer is a great walker!
Lets get rabbit too
Saw a couple of teams with personal boxes for each team member at each stop. Looked very efficient. One suggestion is that there MUST be at least 1 support member for each team ie each team is effectively 8 people.
Slowboy, you've got mail
Definitely On For This......
Support will have to be organised so that supporters get time to sleep. Mr V-rap was like an unguided missile behind the wheel in the early hours of the morning and was veering all over the road trying to avoid hitting wildlife. Fortunately, Pixie slept through most of that.
The sun must shine, gently, until a calm sunset and a quiet still night take over.
Just when the going gets tough and we're feeling low, I promise to sing all of Julie Andrews songs from "Sound of Music".
That will cheer you up no end, I hear you cry!!!! It may make you zap off / walk faster to get away from me!!!
oh, in the 90s, they dont do sleep deprivation now
he was a STAR
but i agree, planned sleep breaks
vv hard for supporters too
Rabbit - will you also sing 'Climb every mountain'?
