Hippo, the times above are only for the walk stages - stops aren't included.
Oxfam specifically requested folks to use the toilets provided and not the countryside. Also there is not a lot of cover. Also there are an awful lot of folks around...
Quality rest time does enable faster walking, so there is a balance to be found. I would expect that the next time round we will all have learned from experience and have even slicker support stops, which would help the overall time. But to expect a transformation from dnf in 03, to 29hrs in 04 to sub 20 in 05 sounds optimistic to me. Mind you, I'm not doing it...
Benz - all pics taken with my Chimp-recommended Olympus Mju 300 digi cam. I brightened one or two of them in Photoshop, but most are as they were taken.
Benz - two of our team had to use the toilets at the stops due to monthly circumstances... as Oxfam had specifically requested using the loos t the breaks everyone did walkers and supporters alike... as there were only a max of 2 toilets per stop this amounted in very long queues (there were 100 extra teams this year) which seriously added to our time...
There was only one loo at the later checkpoints, and those were seriously minging, though I only came across one (at CP9) where the supply of loo roll looked precarious, and I don't think any of them ran out of hand-rub stuff.
I wonder if it might be worse if we set off earlier or were moving faster. Being among the last handful of teams probably eased the congestion at loos and checkpoints quite a lot.
No way am I going behind a bush when it's dark. I haven't forgotten the time, many years ago, when I had a close encounter with a stinging-nettle.
Thx, Glenn some highlights from the top of the sheet
