Birmingham and Black Country Half-Marathon

Heard lots of good things about this event - will get my entry in very soon - any one else "up for it"?

  • I shall most likely be entering again this year. Did enjoy myself last year image
  • great event this. especially when you know all those pubs are at the endimage
  • Just signed up! image Would recommend this event to anyone!
  • Love the canal system for running anyway so this seems perfect - pubs at the end too, what more can you want?

  • Thought this might be a good first half marathon to do as I am used to running on canals and find it easier on my joints than roads - then i was reminded about the pubs now i'm definitely up for it.  I supose people train it back to Wolvo?

  • seems to be easy - train or metro and I think they do a bag bus for your stuff too

  • Did this last year and will definitely be back!

Trains are really regular from quite an early hour, and due to the staggered start there's no real rush anyway, so it's a nice stress free start!!

Not a drinker so the pubs aren't much of a pull for me, but it's a lovely place to finish anyway!!

  • I will definitely be running this in 2012......

great fun last year, if a little warm towards the end.

The good people of Tipton didn't help either with the vandalism / firehouse to leap just before the Barge and Barrel bridge.............
  • I have done this a few years running now and it always has been scorching day!!  So let's hope 2012 is slightly cooler!

Great run and love the start and fab organisation!  There is a bus which transports your stuff to the finish and as already mentioned what a lovely place to finish!!

Recommend this race 110% ..... even the dark tunnel is fun!!  image

  • Just entered for it again.  Did it last year and was my first half marathon... looking forward to doing it again. image
  • Just entered now! I walked the Wolves one last year and this will be my first attempt at running an event so any advice much appreciated indeed.
  • Am I the only one that's noticed that when you click the "Enter Online" link, the prices are different (£19) and there is no early bird option??
  • OK I now know the early bird entries have closed... but the price still goes up from £17 to £19 for normal entries!
  • Started jogging to lose weight and improve fitness in the last 6 months and would like to run a half marathon and was planning on the Wolverhampton HM but this HM has grabbed me but as yet unsure if its too soon for me. So I was just wondering how long before spaces start to fill up and entries end?
  • wow this sounds a fab race, i am so tempted, how quickly does it fill up as i'd have to find someone to watch my kids while i do it tho :-/
  • As always the race Directors (me and Irondog will be around to answer your questions)

    * Bags are transported start to finish, that what the paper swing tags will be for in your race pack, not as in last year to put around your shoes or wear on your top. Please think about the number of bags and ensure that they fasten securely and are of a reasonable weight.

*Generally we get a little antsy about number into June, our ideal solution would be to close / Fill up in by the 1st June but that's only so we can order the right amount of everything for everyone. We will probably still take entries on the day, however we do charge a lot more. If you want a place, enter online or by the postal form in plenty of time. We have not filled the race as yet, but last year it was looking very close image

*Prices, we left the prices as last year to anyone who entered before January, we have had make a small increase primarily due to a couple of costs that previously never had to be incurred.
  • Might be back for my 4th run of this one.....its an awesome race but got a busy summer.....

  • Just entered!! First half marathon ever, hoping to then go on and do the wolves marathon which is usually September. Omg I'd better start runnin!!

  • Have you done many runs Jude, you will find this one 'different' image.

  • No, not really !! doing a rat race run next month, how is it different?? scared now !! image hehe
  • Well it is a bit like a time trial, you go off in groups of 10 (could you imagine 1000 runners starting on a canal towpath). You can be running on your own for a while but no way you can get lost. Also you go through the tunnel which is ...... amusing image

    Its a great race.
  • Oooh, sounds different to what i imagined!!! However now I'm not only scared of the distance but if it all !!!!! Hehe
  • This is a great event, highly recommended, really enjoyed it last year and the organisation is spot on.

Must admit though I'm only 50/50 this year as I like to try different things and the Much Wenlock Olympiad half / full marathon is the following day... Difficult decision, but for those who at local to Wolves / Brum and havent done this before, give it a go. The relaxed time trial format really takes the pressure off if you're a first timer too!
  • I really would like to do this one as a first time half - Should be OK to train up to the distance from my usual 10km between now & then, shouldn't I?
  • Erzulie, plenty of time.

  • Right then - roll on Friday (pay day) and I'm in!
  • Great event done it 3 times disappointed that I am working this year and can't make it.

If in doubt enter now image

  • Alas work, the bane of runners.....however it does pay for the trainers. image
  • I'm entered now - looking forward to it, although a bit nervous! Have added an extra half mile to my short runs before I go to work - mornings finally getting lighter, makes me want to go further! Adding an extra mile to tomorrow's longer one.
  • Got a question been working up to a half marathon, so this would be my first and as a first timer is this good race to go for, my dads done it and says its a nice flat one, anyone got any advise?
