Towpath conditions: Very Muddy and Slippy under foot, not one for road shoes
SIS have sorted the nutrition again, we have PSP on the course ( check the website) as we thing the chance of rain being what it is we would rather you all fueled. Water will be there too
Managed to talk the NIA round so we have showers!!!!
Race packs are all making their way out to people, if you dont have one, dont panic
as a novice who has never run a race, only has road shoes and for whom the distance is going to be a challenge, should I be put off by the conditions? I'm guessing by the time I start (11:15) hundreds of runners will have churned up the towpath something awful.
I really want to do the race, but if there is a high risk of injury I probably should be sensible.
Would appreciate some voices of experience on this one.
Steve this is a wonderful race. If I was running in flip flops I would do it. It is a unique run and finishing in Brindley place is great. Enjoy the day
Give it a go Steve and just take your time, walk in parts if you have to , its not a crime to walk if the ground looks dicey ( I did an off road in road shoes - infact will be doing one this week - and I just walked on all the bits i thought i may slip in ) some of us can only afford one set of trainers
Steve, there are people starting at 12 so you wont be last. Lets face it it will be muddy in places but most of the path is compressed grit type stuff. Road shoes are probably not ideal given the conditions but they will get you round.
The weather is never right on this one, last time it was a heat wave !
If you are using the showers afterwards I think it may also be worth bringing a spare pair of trainers to change into. They are going to get soaked and muddy.
JUst to be clear, the next person who phones and asks whether the run is cancelled due to the weather will be laughed at, of course not and no you cant have a refund cus its raining
8 calls this morning so far
I would like to thank the marshals in advance for turning out to the event
Can't believe people are ringing you up stu. A little showery nothing can compare to the monsoon at stratford marathon this year. On the downside the rain might delay my train and I might after shelter in the pubs at Brindley place after the race. Bring it on.
Good luck all for today, I'll be at the finish line with the cameras so give it your best for a big finish, we had some crackers last year!! Have fun and enjoy the sunshine ;0) see you at the end.
Lovely muddy splashy run. Well done stu for another great bbhm (showers were fantastic at nia) sadly mrs ringo is right weather awful risk of sunstroke to high keeping safe in the pub until safe safe cloud cover arrives purely on medical grounds
Great race today, gave up on running around the puddles at 8 mile and splashed straight through. Good organisation and freindly marshals, even if one told me i had done 6 miles when is was 5.
My first HM and race of any kind and I really enjoyed it!, apart from perhaps the last two miles! Like Brendan I gave up dodging puddles as it felt like I was running further than I should be hence my nice brand new white Asics are no longer gleaming lol.
A pb of course as it was my first HM.
Thank You to the organisers and all the marshalls!!!!!
Really enjoyed the race today too, it was effectively a thirteen mile puddle but great fun! Well done and a huge thank you to the event organisers and the brilliant marshals. My running shoes are in a bit of a state too, not to worry!

Has anyone received their race pack/number through the post yet?

Good news on the Showers Stu. I think they will be needed.
Race pack arrived yesterday.

Marshals are going to be standing in the rain for four+ hours tomorrow, a tough unplesant job. Well done to all of them.

Great race today, well done Phil & Stu and all the marshals.
I wonder if its possible to run in wellies, it would of been the only way to keep your feet dry.

Great run as always, excellent organisation, marshalling, route and general atmosphere!
Wasn't really bothered by the mud / puddles to be honest, just made sure I went through one early on so it couldn't get any worse.
Managed to knock 7 mins off my PB and come in at 1:38 too, so a good day all round!!
Thanks to all involved, see you next year...
