Expecting to be "harvested" mid to late September. If it is late September than I may not be able to run the Dublin Marathon, but who cares? Somethings are more important!!. I will be drinking fit though.

I know about the several days off work etc. It is just that I have entered the Dublin Marathon at the end of October and I want to know if there is a realistic chance of doing it or shall I just go and watch?

Nice one, Steady. I got down to being a perfect match about 10 years for a patient in Italy. It came down to a 25% chance that they would use me (they had another potential donor in the UK - my sister!), but, in the end, the donation was cancelled and they wouldn't (couldn't?) tell us why. So, to this day, I have no idea whether I was found too late, or they found a more local donor or what.
So best of luck - as someone who ran FLM 2001 for Anthony Nolan (and would have done so again in 2003 if I hadn't been injured), it's always good to see someone actually being called upon.

Is it something you register for and then they just call you up when they find someone, or do you register to help one specific person?
Do you know who they've matched you with?
I have been on the register through the blood donation service for a couple of years and thay called me up a few weeks ago for a blood test.
The patient is in Germany currently undergoing chemo apparently.
Just think how the person in Germany is feeling at the moment. They have the chance of a new life thanks to you and your generosity! They probably are also very scared and excited at the same time.
Well done on getting this far, your a star and I hope it all goes well for you and the patient in Germany. Love to you both.
I hope you do get to Dublin even if it is for a pint of the black stuff.
The patient is currently being subjected to chemo therapy and it is all largely dependant on the results of that. She/He must be very ill.
