I've lost three toe nails in the last two weeks, first they went black and bloodshot, then one by one the've dropped off, while taking a bath.If any one has suffered the same, with toe nails, could you please tell me if they will grow again?
I have three that have died on the right foot and two on the left.
If you look underneath the original nail you will see a new one growing. I have been to a chiropodist and this does help as some of my black toenails have been painful and she has helped with this.
my trailwalker team has an extra pledge of anoter £5 to Oxfam for every toenail we lose. Another daft idea we came up with in the hills! I'm looking at about £15 worth at the moment. :-)
My toenails suffered a bit on Trailwalker. I felt them being pulled away from the nailbeds on some of the downhill stretches early on, and they're still a bit sore. I don't think they're going to fall off, thank goodness.
I have just (night before last) cut off the last bit of thick blackish toenail from last year's Glasgow half marathon, just 5 weeks before the next running of the event. Is 11 months a long time for a complete nail to grow?
I don't think the nail on my left second toe will ever be normal again.

Go on, Hippo. I dare you to go into the snootiest nail-bar you can find in your corner of the county and ask them to do you some painted toenail extensions.
I paint mine to try and cover up nasty black colour...sometimes think the nail varnish is the only thing holding them on! But are there any tips for not losing them in the first place? Well-fitting shoes, obviously, but what about sticking plaster?
I lost every nail on my right foot at FLM and the big one is only half way back, with interesting ridges across it...nice.
I am about to lose my first toenail - and I'm not sure what I'll find underneath!
If I leave the nail to drop off of its own accord, will it be sore once it falls off? Will it need to be plastered up, or will it be better to let it dry out? Will it need to dry out?
Shoudl I try and get the nail to come off int he bath, or run the risk of it coming off in a sock on a run? If I do this, will it hurt?
I'm squeamish (sp) and vain so the favoured answer here is 'it will be fine, it won't hurt and the nail beneath will look lovely once covered in varnish'. What do you think?
Um. Well it won't hurt - the reason you loose them is because you've basically got a blister under the nail. Once the blister heals the nail is attached to the dead skin bit which eventually sheds - lovely. You can yank it in the bath if it's very loose or just leave it to its own devices. It will probably look a bit weird though...

Ballerinas have much worse feet than runners.

:-)
I've just trephined both my big toenails. Can I have a sugar-free lolly now please?
I ate them all yesterday.
Then wondered why I had trots while walking 20-minute miles.
Have a few Jelly Tots instead.
Had a sorbitol moment?
If so, I'll be extra careful not to lose one.
