My ex bf used to come out running with me and I got him into cycling. When I started I was alot slower than him but he didnt mind coming with me, he would just occasionally do sprint intervals then walk till I caught up or go for a harder couple of miles once I was done. I have improved alot and while alittle short of his fast pace we went for long runs together and I could see him getting out of breath too. When it comes to cycling he was faster when descending and sometimes on the flat, but I am faster than him uphill especailly on long draggy type hills where I could put quite some distance between us. Short very steep hills he can get up slightly quicker than me. We entered quite a few events together, he'd run his own time for 10ks and meet me at the end, he would stick with me for half marathons sportives we rode together as we are around the same on the bike.He has ditched me now after 2 and a half years together saying he is too old for me (he is 39, I am 26) which really sucks because now Iv not only lost my bf but my best friend and training partner aswell .
Lindi and I met on this forum and have raced IM together a number of times , more recently kayaking and climbing and MTBing with the kids and the rest of our lives have rather taken over , still next weekend will be our second mara together this year.
She kicks my arse in most disciplines , other than swim , run under 10 miles. The only advantage of being totally outclassed by your other half is that it gives one a better sense of humility..
Jack, you can spoil me rotten at Christmas if you like (don't bother with that Viking bloke, he doesn't have big boobs). So long as you don't expect much in return, this could be a very happy relationship
@Hells85 - Sorry to hear that you've lost your training partner. In my opinion you're as old as the woman you feel
My future husband ran a half marathon with me "just to see what it's like" and has said "never again". He cant see the fun in running 21.1km with only a beer at the end to show for it! He'll come out biking, swimming and other sports on occasion but nothing competitive (apparently i'm a sore loser... pfff).
