Bungay Marathon & Half Marathon 2012

So who's signed/signing up to the Bungay Marathon or Half Marathon?  I'm running the Half Marathon and this will be my first, and the longest distance I have ever run! Best incorporate a few hill sessions!

More information

  • Signed up for the marathon at the weekend, will be my third time doing this particular marathon.
  • I'm hoping to be fit to run the half. I ran the full in 2010 and the half this year....but have been suffering from knee problems since late April and currently not running at all....fingers crossed I can get it all sorted, as this would be my big stepping stone towards an autumn marathon in 2012.

Marcus - personally I don't think the hills are that bad, and the second half is flat, so once you have gone through the first 6 miles or so it is fine. Best of luck with it!

  • Thank you. I hope your injury improves soon Freemers.

I've had plantar fasciitis issues on and off since June, and struggle to get my runs over 7 miles before I start to feel discofort, so I've gone back to basics, and building up from 5k again.

And I agree the hills are not that bad (to look at, or whilst in the car), but better to be safe than sorry.

  • Yes, don't ignore hill training, but also don't worry if people describe the course as really hard - it isn't, so long as you are well prepared. Also, there are downs as well as ups!

It is a good race. I like the fact that the full sets off 2 hours before the half, so you get a chance to see the lead marathon runners come through - amazing how fast they run!

Good luck with getting rid of the PF...injury sucks!

  • Yes, having the Marathon runners hurtle past should help me along - it certainly helped during the recent 10k Adnams Great East Run when the 20k runners came past.

    Ditto…hope you're back running soon.

  • Thanks mimambmc! Training is going really well!!! Counting down the weeks!

    Are you entered?

Only five weeks until the big day! imagehttps://us.v-cdn.net/6027274/uploads/forum/smilies/smile_smiley.gif' />

…and I have the Fritton Lake XC HM to tackle next Sunday!
  • Be my 3rd consecutive Bungay Marathon, looking forward to it immensely.  Great course. imagehttps://us.v-cdn.net/6027274/uploads/forum/smilies/smile_smiley.gif' />
  • Under three weeks and the course is looking glorious now that Spring has arrived! I ran the course a few weeks ago, just to see what the hills were really like, and I thought they were fine. The only one that gets you is the first one at about 1.8 miles.
  • The hills are fine on the 1st lap, its the 2nd lap where you need to dig deep!

Hope to be there for my 4th succesive Bungay.

  • Lucky for me Sean G I'm only doing the HM, although my first official race over this distance! Enjoy! imagehttps://us.v-cdn.net/6027274/uploads/forum/smilies/smile_smiley.gif' />
  • NEWS: As of Tuesday 3rd April there are only 84 places left for the Half Marathon! Looks like it's going to be a great race! imagehttps://us.v-cdn.net/6027274/uploads/forum/smilies/smile_smiley.gif' />
  • Entry has just opened for the 2013 race, so I've signed up for my first Marathon imagehttps://us.v-cdn.net/6027274/uploads/forum/smilies/smile_smiley.gif' />
