    Happy Running image

  • Hey Stewart

Hope the cricket is going well.

Trying to bounce above the spam, it's soooo anoying!

  • StewartCStewartC ✭✭✭

No cricket today, so watchd the torch relay instead

  • StewartCStewartC ✭✭✭

    Hi all,

These spammers a bit of a pain in the butt

Slow run today 8 miles on a new route with a 2 mile climb at the start image first two miles took around 24 minutes got it down to 11:30mm by the end of the run, I enjoyed the run and felt strong at the finish, which is quite encouraging given I got lower back stiffness/pain.

    Happy Running image

  • Glad you are getting out running and doing so well at it.

    I'm still sofa bound image

  • StewartCStewartC ✭✭✭

    Hi all,

Maamalade how's the knee today hopefully the pain is easing, I'm totally gutted for you, do you think you'll be fit in time for the GNR?

4.6 miles easy for me this evening with jog scotland group down to the locks at clachnaharry and back, it was a perfect evening for running, a little overcast with a gentle breeze and some good company, what more could you ask for image

I'm planning to do some interval training tomorrow 1 mile for warm followed by 3 x 800m with 400 jog recoveries followed by a 1 mile cooldown, this will be my first experience with intervals and I've heard they can be really tough, wish me luck

    Happy Running image

  • Hey

Knee is still very painful, still sat on the sofa, on crutches for walking (if you can call it that).  Got an appointment with the knee specialist next Wednesday so hopefully will know more then.  As for running, I don't know is the honest answer, I'm still hoping and if Dr says ok my aim will just to be to get round, regardless of time.  Will let you know when I know more.

As for you, your running is coming on in leaps and bounds, really pleased for you.  Intervals though, mmmm, good luck I think is all I can say on that one.  I've always hated intervals, but you may love them.  Let me know how you get one.

Happy running for you, resting for me image

  • StewartCStewartC ✭✭✭

    Hi all,

Maamalade, good to hear you're going to see a consultant so soon, I'll cross my fingers for you

So tonight was my first interval session I did a four lap warm up, thats close enough to a mile image followed by 3x 800m with 400 jog recoveries

I didn't start my app until the first 800m interval so I've got know idea how long it took me for the 4 laps

    800m @ 9:19

    400m @ 11:32

    800m @ 10:12

    400m @ 11:53

    800m @ 9:15

    400m @ 11:26

Turned of the phone app and done another 3 laps to finish the workout.

I was cream crackered after the final 800m, a hard workout but good if you know what I mean.  The only thing that concerns me is the possibility of getting an injury if I try and push myself too hard, any thoughts?

    Happy Running image

  • Hey

Well done on the intervals, sounds like hard work.  As for your concerns I'm probably no the best person to answer.  I would say listen to your body and build up slowly, but that's what I did and look at me now.  Saying that, I have got underlying knee problems which haven't helped.

    Good luck with it image

  • StewartCStewartC ✭✭✭

    Hi all,

Maamalade, thanks for the advice I'll make sure to listen to the body, I'm doing lots of easy running around the speedwork.

Last night was an easy 3.6 miles along the canal, in truth it was a little too easy, 12mm, I'm going to the gym tonight so I'll run to and from hoping to run @ 10:30 - 11:30 pace.  Long run planned for Sunday will probably do around 8 miles

    Happy Running image

  • Sounds like you are clocking up heaps of miles, and more importantly are enjoying it.  You've come so far in such a short time, keep it up image

  • StewartCStewartC ✭✭✭

    Hi all,

THanks Maamalade for your encouragement it is deeply appreciated.  Decided to do a quicker run this evening, starting as always at the sport centre, down the canal to the muirtown swing bridge and back up the opposite side, 3.78 miles in 36:23 @ avg 9:38mm image

I was totally amazed and delighted with the pace and the fact I could maintain it for the whole run. I'm not running tomorrow, playing cricket instead weather permitting but will be out again on Sunday for a slow run.

    Happy Running image

  • Brilliant run stewart leaps n bounds image

Hope you have good cricket. I'll still be on sofa, but parents visiting so going out tonight for fathers day meal.

    Have great weekend image
  • StewartCStewartC ✭✭✭

    Hi all,

Hope you've had a delious meal with your father Maam.

Slow run today, the usual flat run along the canal to Dochgarroch and back 8:09 miles in 1hr 27mins avg pace was 10:47mm.  First four miles @ around 11:30mm and the last four @ around 10mm with mile 8 ran @ 9:26, rest day tomorrow and back out on Tuesday.

    Happy Running image

  • Hey

Had a great family meal out, made a really nice change.  Only thing was I was knackered after supermarket trip.  Didn't realise how tiring going out on crutches was. Back to the sofa since image Just crave going for a run

Well done on your running, can't be long till your race now?

  • StewartCStewartC ✭✭✭

It's ages away yet, September 30th so around 14 weeks, I'm also thinking about doing a half in Aviemore two weeks later, it's supose to be a cracking run a mixture of on and off road and not to hilly, I am seriously considering taking part, but not to sure what I'll need to do training wise, do I run the 10k hard and just look to get round the half.

  • Can you run 10 miles fairly comfortably? If so, aim for a HM distance on your next LSR, see how it goes, take it slow and make the decision from there.

I think from seeing what you've been doing that it won't be a problem for you, but you have to be happy too image

  • StewartCStewartC ✭✭✭

9.5 miles is the furthest I've ran to-date, and I managed that fairly comfortably, I'll take your advice I'll try 13 miles on Sunday

Jog Scotland tonight, but there was very little jogging, Interval night, approx 50 minute session with lots of sprints and jog recoveries, it was really tough but enjoyable, probably go out for a slow run tomorrow.

    Happy Running image

  • Sounds like a plan Stewart, let me know how you get on.

Looks like I won't be running for a while, I need to have surgery on my knee to fix it, depends on how good it goes as to if I get to do Great North Run or if going to have to defer for a year.

    I'm living in hope.

  • StewartCStewartC ✭✭✭

thats just plain sucks image, sending you some positive vibes for a sucessful surgery and recovery

  • Thanks, will keep you posted as to how I get on.

Keep me up to date with how you are getting on, it's good to hear x

    Hi all,

I ran with the seven mile group last night, only four of us, to be fair the weather was aweful, 7.1 miles in 1hr 13mins @10:19mm, it was a hard run in the rain but strangely enjoyable interestly it was 63:30 through 10k so I'm well on track to go sub 60 in September

    Happy Running image

  • Good run and good times, sure you'll get the sub 60 image

Enjoy resting today before your long run tomorrow.  I'm sure you'll do great, just remember slow and steady, it's a test of your stamina not a race image Take fluid and energy sweets if you have them to get you round, I found I needed them at about 10 miles image

  • StewartCStewartC ✭✭✭

    Hi all,

Cricket match yesterday was abandoned in the seventh over due to rain, so I decided to go for my long run instead, starting in light rain, the plan was to run 13 miles so I followed the 9 mile route adding in a loop around a housing estate in Drakies, It was going really well until I reached the Inverness royal academy and then the heavens opened!, with only 7 miles done I knew it was going to be an eventful finish, the rain eased as I approached Dores Road, I thought to myself if it didn't get any heavier I should complete the run without any problems, however mother nature decide a thunderstorm would be nice, all I can say it was like running in a power shower all I needed was a bar of soap and I would have been sorted!, the roads and pavements turned too rivers, in some places half way up my shins, so I decided to cut the run short.  Finishing back at the spoert centre the run took 2hrs 8 mins  covering 11 miles @ 11:37mm.

Hopefully I won't be so wet during my next run

    Happy Running image

  • Stewart,

That sounds like one very eventful run, many congrats firstly on actually keeping going in the rain, think even I'd of given up in that, but also for the distance, your longest run so far, your so close the the HM, I think that you are ready for it too image How did it feel, other than wet?

    Congrats again image

  • StewartCStewartC ✭✭✭

    Thanks Maamalade,

I almost forgot it was a distance pb image generally I felt good during the run, no real issues, it was tough mentally, don't get me wrong I didn't want to stop or quit but I've never ran for so long before, I'm going to have to prepare my mind as well as my body for the HM, but I've got enough time to get myself into shape, I'm going to have to think about making some adjustments to my training plan, currently my longest run will be 13 miles but I will probably need to extend that a little.

    Any thoughts

  • I know what you mean about mentally tough, for me I tend to use it for putting the world to right, to clear my head out, plus if I find it tough I tend to mentally argue with my body to shout at myself and tell myself I can do it.

I found with training that because of the mental side I wanted to know that I could cover the distance and then so that I could have a strong finish wanted to get my training runs up to 15 miles, maybe that would work for you?

Well done again on your run, hope that it didn't leave you stiff or sore after?

  • StewartCStewartC ✭✭✭

    Hi Maam,

Yeah 15 miles looks like a good target, Jog Scotland this evening, I'm planning to take it easy as my back is still a little stiff and sore, Once I loosen up it doesn't bother me at all, I got through cricket training last night so fingers crossed.

  • Remember the listening to the body bit.  Is the back bad from running or something normal? I'd go get a sports massage to see if they can losen it up incase there is something else in there image

  • StewartCStewartC ✭✭✭

    Hi all,

So much for an easy run, intervals/hills tonight, I decided to do hills as I did the interval session last week, warm up jog to the base of stratherrick road then it was up and down  stratherick then up Merlewood and down times 5 once completed a jog back to the sports centre, I was totally wacked by the end, it was only 3.93 miles but probably the toughest session I've done to date. Just checked my stats for the month 79 miles so far, and I've still got two runs left this month image

Maam, I'll make sure to pay full attention to the body, I woke up one morning with a sore back about a fortnight ago probably slept funny that night, however it appears to be getting a little better, a massage sound like a cracking idea.

By the way how are you getting on? hope the knee is not being too painful
