  • Thanks for the info gastank .. Interested in the IM Wales stuff.. I didn't buy anything Pre race last year as didn't want to temp fate . So that , a subscription to 220 for the freebies , and a hug from chrissie if she's there tomorrow and I'll be happy .

We are driving round from Essex so if you happen to be from this side of town and wanted to go back tomorrow you are welcome to join us.
  • thanks Slag, but i'm further round than that (north London) but the missus would probably kill me...! I was out from 10 am until 6pm today  - Chrissie signing and Triathlon plus at the same end, through the doors turn right - they had the westuit bag. 220Tri were up the other end with the HRM

Melds, if I manage to fit in that tri suit I might sell myself image (and taking a breath when excited is difficult for me, oh boy are you lot in trouble when I complete my IM and if I don't just immediately die!)

It's my dad's 70th the weekend of Lanza, I think the only way to do this is bring them along to Lanza! (might have to sell both kids)

  • Slag - Chrissie just posted on twitter shes at TCR from 12h30 till late, yesterday queue for seeing her/ book signing got big quick so you might want to factor that in, since she now the no1 best seller in the Uk this week!
  • I'm off to do a run - swim - run, looking at the rain might be more like a swim - Swim -swim image
  • Well i managed to get away with only spending £5...loads of freebies though. Saw Cat5, Rio, Glad, Slag, GB and a rather soaking O.C.

    Some good bike porn too.

One of the organisers from challenge Henley was very keen to offer a pirate group discount for next year.

  • I think they have offered us a group discount before .... may be a non Lanza option for next year?   Could also be open to Lanza - ites who want to get a local one in  image
  • Lanza = May

    Henley = Sep

If your rich both could be do-able

  • It is possible I suppose .. Challenge events are a bit cheaper than the IM and there would be much later availability for Henley so more time to spread entry fees

So many events, so little time !
  • Good day out. Left with 2kg of High5 powder to get used to. I could have spent a lot of money there.

Seems like a lot of events all pushing to get our cash. Henley HIM is a possible warm-down this year.

  • They mentioned a pirate discount last year too, they are definitely keen.

From chatting to them they also seem very nice, and very passionate about the race.

One of them did Roth last year and another was off to do it this year as a relay. They were interested in our opinions of it - both the course and the organisation. I'd say it's a definite maybe!

Was pondering going along to support / have a nosey at it this year.

Erm, although I may retire lol.... image

  • I think I am working that weekend but would be interested in a nose or even a ride round the course at some stage?!
  • Could do a ride around...
  • Good day out... couldnt believe my 10k tim, still can't image Who was the pirate just arriving when I was on my second lap... sorry I could only just about muster a thumbs up and maybe a smile

Great to see faces new and old. Didnt spend too much considering I had a credit card that was burning a hole in my pocket!

  • Golden Boots that was me image  You were flying.  Well done.

Well I had my pedal technique analysed on a Watt bike and can now no longer use that as an excuse for being so rubbish on the bike image

  • I thought the show was rather dull - very little interesting new stuff, and just lots of same old, same old. saying that I got some new goggles and P got a new swimsuit.

and HC posted this over in her IMNZ report - "Its astounding how many people wandered around Taupo dressed head to foot in Lycra and no sign of a bike.". I could say the same at the show - why do people wander around in frigging compression kit and tri kit when they clearly haven't been doing any event?? get a life!!
  • Quite enjoyed it myself , but the first one of these shows i'd been to so no benchmark to measure against .   Had a good chat with the guy running the Midnight  Man (through the night Iron Distance ) in August .. They are suffering a little with numbers i think due to the proximity of other Iron distance events , and the fact that they were quite late in being able to firm up details and dates meaning many had already committed to other long distance events. He is going to try and get next years event agreed in principle so they can get ahead of the game and set the dates .. do think it would be a good one to do .

Also good chat with Activity Wales  (Scott (i think ?) ... who is having a crack at IMW this year now he hasnt got to help organise it.. so i guess every cloud as they say ) , Also a good ole chat with the OSB crew about Outlaw .. really looking forward to that one now .

Credit card remained largely unscathed .. just some new shorts and a top up of electrolyte powders .

Good to catch up with  a few familiar faces and great work on the 10k time GB.

On the subject of people wearing compression kit when they have been no where near a race .. largely agree .. however notable exceptions to this rule for yesterday should be the ladies on the 2XU stand , and again those in the stand that was selling Sports Bras ... clearly being adorned in close fitting lycra is fundamental for their jobs and i think it would be unfair of us to critisise them for this ;-)

  • I was wearing compression trousers but in my defense it was because my legs were trashed after racing (half of) the Ballbuster on Saturday and then the 10k at the show.

Definitely agree on the 2XU stand lycra-clad requirements! image

  • I have no issue with stand staff wearing lycra Slag....as you say, it's a bonus for us perve....visitors image

I had a long chat with Matt from Activity Wales about them being shagged by IM. what a great shame for the guys who got that event off the ground but they had their own reputation to maintain in light of what IM are doing and didn't want to get associated with it's organisation and lose the goodwill of the local community for the fuckups that will happen. got some good inside info from him about the future which I can't disclose... image

I'm reffing the Cyclopark duathlon that Bridge Triathlon are running next weekend so will have a chat with John about the MM. it's a great idea I think
  • Well, I didn't win the free entry to Challenge Henley in their prize draw, but I did get a bunch of Hi5 stuff.  I'm not the only pirate on their list of winners either.
  • Old news CD - us twitterati have been talking about nothing else all day! image

Debate is currently whether to keep or sell!
  • Well, some of us have work to do you know. image

If you're not going to use it, sell it.  Easy decision really.

  • Well, I got my book signed by her Chrissiness on Friday. Mentioned Gladys and his photo as well to her. She's bound to have remembered him....
