I thought I put down 4 hours but have a blue number (thankfully) so 4:01 to 4:59 which I am pleased about.
Thoughts now turn to footwear and running surface. Appreciate the Downs drain exceptionally well, but not being from the area and familiar with the surface... if it rains all week is the opinion roads or trail shoes?
Hi all just entered tgis as my last training run before attempting sdw100.
Devon footwear is going to be hard choice I did the three forts marathon and it was trail shoes all the way it was slippery and muddy all race. But a few day later the trails where hard again and ran in road shoes. I'll take both and decide there although the weather is due for rain most of the week down here so trail may well be the way to go.
I've worn my road shoes for the last few years and they've been fine, this year I am going for light trail shoes only because my road shoes have really bad grip, the south downs path is pretty dry at the moment
If the forecast turns out to be accurate, it's going to be pretty wet all week. Just going out now to give my new Gel Trabucos their second trip. They've a decent bit of cushioning and grippy looking soles, so they might be the best bet for me. I certainly wouldn't fancy running 26.2 in my Adidas Kanadias on any surface - no cushioning whatsoever (great grip though)
Got my number too, am blue start. Beginning to feel nervous now, haven't managed as much training as I would've liked, just hoping the fitness is still there from Brighton!! Am also having the trail/road shoes debate and whether to take extra water.....
Genghis - I'm liking that plan! I've done 4 specific training runs, the longest being 17 miles which is a bit rubbish, but I've done six halfs this year and a couple of long duathlons and bike rides as well, so I'm just about confident enough of my general fitness.
Shoegirl - just don't wear the Louboutins If the rain continues I'm going to wear the Gel Trabucos instead of road shoes, but as I said earlier, I wouldn't really want to run 26.2 in hardcore trail shoes like my Adidas Kanadias
Im really concerned as just received my number and I am in blue wave. This is my first marathon ever and NO way would I have put sub 5hrs so cannot understand why Im not in yellow. Can anyone tell me what to do about this
Sarah - I've just looked at the timings, and there's only a 20 minute gap between the 5+ and the 4-5 hour waves, and another 20 minutes to the sub-4 start. It's not going to make that much difference. There will be at least one person starting in the sub 4 wave and probably not running sub 4 - and I'm sure there will be slower runners starting in the 5+ wave.
my first marathon too and my estimate of 4hrs may not be true, we'll see.... Been doing lots of running over the last 5 months so who knows and managed a good 10km trail race last week (I know completely different). I've been doing a few half ironman tris over the last couple of years so hopefully the engine and will power will keep me going..
I'll be red number 1045, but if you don't remember then just look out for the tall numpty running in luna sandals....
Checked out part of the route on a walk this weekend during the sunshine. Not as hard as I was expecting it to be so not feeling quite so worried about it now! I'm running in my Kanadias - have recently run a 30miler and 25miles both off road/trail in them and been fine.
Emhux - well done for finding some sunshine - and if Merrowman can run in Luna Sandals you can run in anything. I'm pretty sure I'm going for the new and not at all shouty-looking bright yellow Trabucos
Emhux - great positivity ! Which bit did you check out ?? I'm probably with Merrowman - this route has some nasty surprises, mostly after half way from memory. The hills at 13m and 18.5m in particular are naughty...and just when you don't need them.
I'm still undecided re shoes. It was absolutely bone dry and rock hard on Saturday when I ran the 7-13m approx section - will probably stick with road shoes unless it rains heavily Friday night. The course isn't the muddiest part of the Downs, lots of gravelly/stony bits.

Anyone know what the actual colour scheme is?
I can't remember if I put 4:30 or 5:00
I put down for 4:00 and I'm red

I'll bring both pairs either way.
Got my number 1202 on a red background and i'm down as a 5+ hours finisher.
It is I have email Mike as I don't want to run on my own. I could just about get away with the blue start.
Defo yellow for 5+ as that's what I am 'cos I'm a slow runner and well used to running alone
Just back from a trip down the A3 to have a look at the Q.E. Country Park. It was absolutely hissing down ,but all looking very green & gorgeous.

Shoegirl,
I dont train for these I just take them slow and enjoy them until the pain begins and then I just focus on finishing them.
Sounds like a plan!!!

Mad choice of route for a first marathon though!

Ow... That's like saying the traffic isn't as bad as you expected when on the M25 on a friday night - bound to come back and haunt you....

Too late to turn back now, looking forward to it and I'm with Genghis on the training plan!
