I dont train for these I just take them slow and enjoy them until the pain begins and then I just focus on finishing them.

This is my plan. Although I have been training on hills a fair but and managed up to 21 miles the other week.

It just feels like i've not trained as much as I did for Brighton - but that was 4 months of training I guess.

since it's my first marathon it's also my first taper after a lot of running weeks...  Everything appears to be trying to fall off - phantom pains coming up in my feet, ankles,  back, neck.... Luckily my wife is an osteopath but she's a bit baffled.

Didn't have this when I've trained and completed some half ironmans but perhaps this training has been more intense and specific?? Anyway it may all come good, or I may be shuffling around... image

Aah, the taper pains - tight hamstrings? check. Calf pain? check. Sore glutes? check. etc, etc - bloody weird, isn't it? - this time I have also developed a nearly-blister between two toes just in time for the race. Never had it before. Might have to vaseline my toes up, which I can't imagine will feel very nice.

image just been googling taper madness....

Hey guys, this is my favourite marathon and is the reason I've chosen it to be my 100th. Looking forward to the celebrations at QE2 Park.

Disaster has struck - I've spent so much time talking about this one I've failed to enter <img src='https://us.v-cdn.net/6027274/uploads/forum/smilies/embarassed_smiley.gif' /> (not the first time I've done this).

Long shot - does anyone out there have a spare place as they're pulling out?

Chaz! I've texted you, hope it make sense.

helly... LOL.  Dare I use the word numpty?

Southdownsman - good luck for your 100th.  Will you be surrounded by a posse of 100 Clubbers?

Not bothering to taper.  I tapered for London and had a sh1t race.... I also carbo loaded and felt bloated... so from now on I am going to ignore all advice along those lines and just turn up Alf Tupper style and run my little socks off.  image

PSC - my taper has basically consisted of having two days without running to rest my knackered legs after a fair amount of hill work. I don't carb load - steak  and chips and 2 pints of lager the night before a marathon is, I have found, the right balance image

Could have sworn I successfully edited my last post but all I seem to have done is messed up the smiley - my incompetence knows no bounds. Things are however looking up,  my disaster may be shortlived image

SDM - I've done many of the same races as you. Please make yourself known (something emblazoned with a large 100?) should I actually end up making an appearance.

Taper, schmaper. I didn't drink for a month before I did this as my first marathon. As you can probably tell from my typing I no longer follow any particular pre-race plan apart from get enough sleep.

I'm following my tried and tested taper....eat everything in sight!!! image

me too shoegirl.. sick of pasta! 3 Meals of it today & some ready in the frigde for work tomorrow!

I'll eat a bit lighter tomorrow night though but will have a massive bowl of oats around 5am Saturday!

I'm really looking forward to this, but unfortunately my mate left it too late to enter, and now it's sold out. Thing is... he was going to drive!

It's a bit of a long shot, but I don't suppose anyone knows anyone I might be able to get a lift off from the Brighton area? I would of course happily pay for fuel and be very grateful...

I hope this wind blows through..  it's pretty brutal out there!

over an inch of rain today.  Tomorrow looks ace... warm but not too hot, a bit breezy and dry.  Maybe some showers around 1ish - good incentive to get a bit of a wiggle on!image

Helly, yep we may finally meet up. I can't wear any 100 marathon club kit until I've finished, of course!

I've had a few injuries this year - unusually for me - so have done very few long runs since the Stinger. But tomorrow - like most trail events - is all about finishing, not time.

Any news on trail conditions from the local runners? After a week of moderate rain, I'm assuming it'll be sticky in places image Trail shoes either way I think, after my farcical outing at the stinger in road shoes I'm not taking any chances

    From 2:09 facebook page..."

"Spent 10hrs on the South Downs yesterday marking out - well, it was wet! The first 5 miles of the marathon will be muddy but after that it is well drained and there will be plenty of firm going but probably some large puddles. By the end of the eving when the rain had stopped the paths were remarkably dry very quickly.

The weather is looking favourable for Saturday with sun and 19C - fingers crossed."

I'd really like to get away with my road shoes! I'll be bringing off road shoes tho.

    Early night tonight!

    Good luck everyone!

I seem to be speaking in code. Ship - if you don't get a lift you could still get a train to Arundel for Slindon.

  • Options
SDM - you forgot you did Three Forts last month.....Remember what a joy that was !! Good luck tomorrow - hopefully see you at the start, during and at the finish. Suspect we'll be round in a similar time. I'm not going to QE Park beforehand as going straight to Slindon, so see you there. Assume you are in the 4-5 hour wave.

The shoe question is doing my head in. The first bit will be horribly muddy (up through the woods) but if it doesn't rain any more much of the rest will be dry...........I still think I'm going for the Roclites at the moment though.

Interesting commenston carbo loading and tapering. Neither work for me at all so I've stopped. I avoided alcohol for three months before my first marathon. It went crap. I got my (admittedly slow) PB having had a couple of pints and a Chinese takeaway the night before. Right, where's that menu............image

    Not sure about carb loading........

I've had food poisoning for 5 days and have been doing the exact opposite with carbs....for some silly reason I am in the sub 4 group!!! Ouch! See you there helly.

Just have some ready made carbs - lucozade or similar. Flat coke is also good if you don't mind drinking coke.

Been out today and it's a lot better than it was on Weds when it was peeing down and very slippery. Sunday looks like it's going to tip down so I may not watch afterall.

    Isn't it tomorrow camillia?image

UB - I'll be training and cabbing it to Slindon (cutting it rather fine) so see you either at the start or on route unless the food poisoning has made you super speedy.

Deffo road shoes, comfort over traction for me! Just need to get round in one piece... got a 10 hour flight to The Maldives to get through on Sunday! Not sure whether Saturday or Sunday will be more torturous?.. don't feel sorry for me though!!
