Did this one in 2009 and have entered again. Looking at my Garmin data there is a reasonable hill around 4 miles and a total bitch of a hill at the 10 mile mark. Most powerwalk up it and don't lose too much time. Last 2 miles are pretty quick. Very scenic course though. I'll be carrying more drink than usual due to problems at previous events organised by these particular organisers but hope it's not needed.
Doing a 5k now to warm up for tomorrow. 1st half marathon so shoulld be a good experience. Not sure about this hill at 10 miles though!? Anyone see me struggling and think i need a push.............you would be correct.
I didn't see anyone running up that hill. Well, that's not strictly true - as soon as I saw the photographer positioned halfway up I started running again...and then went back to walking as soon as I'd passed him.
Really enjoyable course through challenging country lanes, with good support from the villagers along the way. Really well marshalled too with ample water stations.
Mine said 13.1 exactly. There were plenty of parts of the course where you could add distance on if you weren't careful - especially the turns and twists in the roads.
My GPS dropped out after 6 miles, although I did complete the race.
Many thanks to the organisers and marshalls for putting on this race, and to all the people cheering us along - that was a really nice touch. My first HM & a really enjoyable race. Will be back next year to conquer that hill at 10 mile stage..
Was a really enjoyable day. Hills were not as bad as I imagined them. I walked for about 10 paces on the big hill back and yes started to run again when I saw the photographer ha ha.
Support from marshalls and locals was well received along with the jelly babies.
Well marshalled, just enough water stations and credit to Martin Burke. Just what you would expect of a 'Nicework' run
Will definately be coming back next year to get a better PB after narrowly missing out on a sub 2 hr. Not bad considering I had never run the course before and have always been a 10K runner.
This was my first half marathon and I really enjoyed it. I found the course challenging but really well marshalled and everyone was lovely and encouraging along the way. I'm looking forward to next year to see how I will get on then!
Thanks to Martin Burke and all the marshalls. Dreading seeing those photos too!
like many others this was my first half marathon, and i'm pleased to say i loved it (well, most of it!)
I did this one as it's local to me and was impressed by the turnout and variety of the entrants. organisation was fine to me and a very big thank you to all those who cheered us on (a special thank you to the chap sitting on his car near the bottom of "that hill", doors wide open, big grin on his face and "eye of the tiger" blaring out of his car speakers! it had me grinning like a loon for a good few hundred metres!)
i'm off to find a nice easy course to get a decent time, then back next year to beat that bloody hill!
That was tough! Clearly I need more hill training in my legs. Well organised, nice support through the villages and so grateful to cross that finish line!
Training around Sandwich on the flat didn't prepare me for that hill at 10 miles. But I ran up it anyway and finished in 1:50. Not a great time but with the hills, not bad. Good prep for Margate this Sunday. Enjoyable day in the Kentish sun, but that car park could have been tricky in the rain. Will do this again next year, but I'll be ready for that hill by then.

Hi Martin, I can't find the route online, has it been confirmed yet and is there a link? Or should we just go with the garmin link posted earlier?
This is my first half marathon so I'm hoping all goes well!
Is there a time limit to complete it in?
Just entered, my first half marathon. Looking forward to the challenge
Just entered this one too! Not been to Canterbury before

Hi all, how far is the start from the cricket ground?
Hi Keith, it's just over a mile from the rear entrance of the cricket ground (nackington road) to the start.
Yes David - the last batch of numbers were mailed first class yesterday - so you should have yours any time now.

Yes, that hill at 10 miles was brutal.....
Well done to the organisers and the marshalls.
Did anyone else's GPS measure the course longer than 13.1 miles?
Mine lost a signal a couple of times and ended up with 13.3 which is quite a bit over....

Thanks Martin
Does anyone know who the photographer worked for by the way? And why wasn't he at the bottom of any hills??
I take it we will have the opportunity to buy the photos then?
Results email has a link to the photographer yes

They are not finalised yet though. I always dread 'race face' photos!
And I did run up that hill!
Well done to all who completed the race, it was tough but I enjoyed it.

I'm still aching from those hills!!! Very challenging!!

I will never be ready for that hill! Why do it on Monday again? I could have used a day in bed today!
