see if ive done it right

  • Perfect, all worked! Thanks Mick, I'll send the group email out later this week image

  • MicknPhil are you in our support group?  I really think you should be, I'm a huge fan image
  • Hi Iron Pingu

    thanks for that - appreciated

i dont know where we'll be, but somewhere with RW  Mudchute crowd

a lot really does depend on Philip's behaviour really , how much i move about etc, hes happy on the move,

he doesnt appreicate me talking to people sadly

so, i do hope u all wont be offended by any of this - but i have to survive with him and have a life myself

  • Hey, no worries, if I see you, I'll give you a shout out image
  • Dear fellow RW forumites - spectators and runners

    This is Mick speaking

Some of you will no doubt know a lot about us , some may not

    So, to say -

We as already stated hope to get to Mudchute to have a day of fun

But my day will depend on Philip’s behaviour, as he is most content on the move, and not so much us being static

He sadly does not give me much chance to socialise with anyone, he really craves my attention , Philip can be extremely demanding, he can do very little for himself, and he cannot talk he shreaks

So, please if I appear to be ignoring anyone or not interested, I’m sorry, I’ll do my utmost best to be respectful and polite and sociable to you all , but my life is easier when he’s happy

I myself would so much rather be running, and its only due to London marathon bosses that we are not

So, my apologies are given up front,

I do hope you all have a fabulas day

If there’s is anything you’d like to know from me, then please feel free to ask, online here or on the day, and I’ll do my best to accommodate you

    Best wishes always

    Mick

  • Mick - it will be lovely to see you and Phil thereimage

Hash - happy anniversaryimageHope you have had a nice day!

  • Mick, I've just been reading on your website, you're an inspiration, both of you!

I thought I was coping well with my condition (hyperventilation-induced epilepsy) but the pair of you put all of us to shame!
  • james

     many thanks -

yes i'm sadly an " Old Hand " LMAO  image

but you take care and look after yourself friend

i am lucky TBH, my wife is never well, massive medication intake daily

    Temple Lobe Sclorosis

my son Philip he has mutiple problems and has lots of daily medication

that just leaves me image - my passion - Running, not so much as what i did do ,

  • Morning team 4!

How is everyones training going? I did 5 miles of intervals last night and have an easy 5 miles tonight.

Loving my new Brooks Adrenaline GTS 11's and ran in summer atire for the first time this year! no more hat, gloves and long sleeve!!

  • Summer attire!  That's crrrrrrrrazy image  Last run I did was jacket, hat, the lot.  I used to be a Brooks Adrenaline fan, not sure why I stopped using them, wear Saucony now.

Still no running for me which is annoying, but I figure if I get completely over this I can blast the miles out next week.

  • I was of the opinion that, I'll be cold for a mile or so but I'll soon warm up, and I'd prefer to be cold to start with than hot all the time! Think I'm still going to wear leggings though, my legs didn't feel too hot and theyre compression ones so supposed to be good for you!

I'm on a step back week this week after 17 miles last Sunday, 2hrs 39mins, so hopefully I'll be able to do sub 4:30 in 4 weeks time!!!

  • I'd be more than happy with a 4.30.  Is it your first?
  • It's my first marathon yeah. I've done 2 half marathons in prep for it, the Four Villages in Helsby (1:53:30) and the great north west half (1:52:47)

They say as a rule of thumb times your half time by 2 and add 15 minutes. I'd be the happiest person ever if I could do sub 4!!!!!image

  • James

i do so hope all goes well for you

just try and be reay to expect the unexpected

    see how u feel at 20 - 21 miles

id be just concentrating on the finishing  if it were me

the marathon can even destroy the best on the day

  • Yeah I am thinking that, as long as I finish in under 5 I'll be happy. I've done 1 20 miler, 1 17 and I've got another 20 next weekend before my taper.

I'll always have that little voice in my head saying 'could you make sub-4 though??'

Suppose there are too many variables that you can't calculate for, weather etc...

  • james

yes friend of course you will aways have that little voice in your head

trouble is - phscyological sub consciously now - that could be a danger

you've got your heart and soul quietly set on that

tis good though that you've done 20

you call them variables - thats good, least ure think ing about it

over the years i've been running along with some of my marathon friends ( i'm speaking of OLD Hands ) mind, not inexpereinced peeps

and they've or myslef felt fine around 18 - 22 , and by the next mile, its been all but over

then the battle of mental stamina has to overtake,

  • They do say the race begins at mile 20....

Stomach does flips everytime I think 'its only 4 weeks away'....image

  • yes i know

    try and relax,

stomach nerves can cause sickness - and jeely legs, its called excitement

people say its good- it can effect ones performance and make running hard

you can only learn about marathons from marathoners

    Trust me

  • Can;t believe some of you are still running in winter gear, i've been in shorts and top since Feb.

I prefer to be slightly cold whilst waiting at start and then soon warm up once on the go.

Did a 20 mile run on Sunday  and felt okay, leg could tell I had done 20 but still had a bit in reserve.

Aiming to get as close to 4 hrs as possible this year, did 4 hrs 37 last year but right hip ached last year after 15.

After seeing physio, i've now got loads of core strengthing exercises whihc seem to be helping the hips.

  • Morning team 4

Mick image. lovely to see you in here

    Welcome along James.

Andy any chance od a look at those core exercises? It's been on my 'should do' list for far too long. The best I manage is a half-hearted plank, collapsing in a heap after a pathetic minute.

Reading back some good advice been given, don't panic all will go well on the day. Set off easy and let the run come to you don't blast off at the start and hit the wall come mile 20/21 from that point it's all about the head, trust in the training you have done and the Taper about to start soon. Mick nice to know you and Phil will be in team 4's corner. 13iles easy yesterday for me and just about to run 7 easy this morning.
As for the winter leggings and top I'm still wearing a hat and gloves it's still icy in Northern Ireland.
  • Running each mile from 20 to 26 for someone helped get me through. Every time a mile marker clicked past I said "this one's for you, X" and pictured them cheering me on or running beside me if it was a running mate.

After 24ish when you come out of the underpass onto the Embankment it's not so much a run as a victory roll, with optional blubbing if it's your first or you've trained like hell for it.

Agree with you Hash the support for the whole marathon is fantastic but when you come out of the tunnel on to the embankment before turning right past Big Ben your just about home and for me the support from the tunnel to the Mal is the greatest. I still get goose bumps thinking of seeing Buck house and the top of the Mall for the last 400m run in to the finish.
  • Just got my race number - 1895 image

Going to go out for a gentle bike ride today and if the chest feels good, 20 miler tomorrow!  Ok, maybe not, but I'll do a few miles image

I've done London twice before now, and the wheels always come off at around 20 miles.  Last time it was because the balls of my feet felt like they were on fire, had to keep taking my shoes off and massaging my feet!

  • Aww I want my race number! Are you a ballot entry Iron Pingu or doing it through a charity? I've got a Gold Place so they've said I get my number at the EXPO. They also said that I'd recieve a race information pack through in March.....
  • Ballot for me, been very lucky, 3 ballot places in 6 years.  What's a gold place?  You should have the mag when you get home (assuming you're in work today, week off for me image )
  • Its a place that charities buy from Virgin, then allocate to runners who apply to them. I have to raise £1500 minimum but thats all going well so far
