Looking at a few other kits, it's not that usual to have a flag on the kit. Also looking at our new kit, it is obviously GB. But if we are going to use our flag, we should use the right bloody one.
Being a little more generous, on the kits where I can see the flag, I do sort of get what Stella was trying to do. Although I still hate it. But on the cycling kit for example, the flag just looks like a couple of rubbish stripes.
No,looks like a neutral team colour for an unaffiliated runner...I'm not fussed about the union jack as such but if it is going to represent all the nations in the UK then at least have a prominent reference to the colours...problem when fashion meets sport....
"Webs of elastic fibres woven into the fabric are said to help generate "explosive power, acceleration and endurance". Manufacturers say athletes feel like it is an "extension of their own skin". "
It's OK, but I agree that if the flag is represented then it should be represented properly. The kit itself is smart and presentable, which is more than can be said of some of our kits in the past.
obviously all three of red white and blue are necessary, as those make us uniquely english. or french. or american. or russian. or norwegian. or thai, croatian, panamanian, aussie or kiwi.
Back to the kit. It's kind of ok but it's far too confused and complicated. Far to fussy and very little unity through out the sports. Not really easily identifiable as team Gb.
Having said that, the union flag has been heavily used by the fashion industry recently. As such it has lost some of its ability to identify it as being the flag of Great Britain. It has almost become a motif. Still, design wise the union flag is strong. Even S M can't muck that up.
I'm guessing the beach volleyball kit isn't too dis-similar to what JA is wearing.
Flag issue aside, I don't understand why people are saying they can't see it as GB kit though. It's not that different from previous kits. I recognise it as Team GB anyway.
I think our minds play cruel tricks on us with things like this. Take Captain Pugwash for example. Ask anyone about it and they will swear blind there was a Master Bates and Seaman Stains in it. They would stake their lives on it almost. But there were no such characters. Completely made up. More recently, the up roar over FIFA not allowing the English football team to wear a poppy. This has never been an issue before because the English team, nor any other, has asked for it. Yet the nation was up in arms over it life FIFA were trying to change history when in actual fact it was an issue created by the FA and the press in an attempt to turn the poppy from a dignified symbol of remembrance into a emblem of English/British nationalism. But I digress.
Good points BDB, and there have been some pretty bad kits in the past. And when the past four years of your life culminates in how you perform in the next 10 secs / 5 minutes, you're probably not too fussed about which way a stripe is going across your chest. You can't beat a bit of old-school simplicity though can you.
Small technical point - all this business about wearing red shoes. Is that always going to work? What if Adidas Adizero Adios don't come in red this year? Do we need a bespoke commission? Didn't think that one through did ya Stella! Eh? Eh?

That is true Screamy.

I think the t-shirts will look good with a pair of jeans.

A real opportunity completely missed.
I am not so concerned about them representing me as doing good by themselves.
Good fortune to them all, in these mediocre times they deserve it.
had a chance to check it out now and i really like it. its cool. maybe that's because i'm scottish though
(although i'm not sure about the trackuit top with the bow. looks like it doesn't fit).
on the whole, ace.
i might even buy it. just kidding.
i'm not sure about this twaddle though....

And the worst thing about Britain sometimes is the fckn negativity.
Don't like.
I don't hate it the way I hate the logo, the mascots and the stupid tower thing.
It's just not very interesting.
But I am also Scottish so rather attached to the blue.
The red shoes look like they're lost theirs and at the last minute had to blag a pair!
I imagine it will grow on us... But I still like the Lion with his red, white & blue mane.

yes, it's crucial to the english identity!

ditto.Important part:-
What's the beach volleyball kit like???
But why did Stella go to the launch in her jim-jams?
And I'm sure, if she'd just tried a bit harder, they could have got the Adidas logo on in more places, and larger.
