2013 VLM date

Afternoon all,

Don't suppose anyone knows if the date has been set for the 2013 London marathon yet? Is it always the same weekend of the year (e.g the 17th Sunday of the new year?)

Any help would be much appreciated

Toby

  • IIRC it's normally the weekend before Easter, but I may be wrong
  • Easter's early next year, last weekend in March, so I imagine it will be later. 21st is the date I've seen, but I wouldn't take that as confirmed.
  • it does move around so it doesn't clash........thought i saw the date in the magazine
  • Brighton is 14th so London should be 21st...April that is
  • But does anyone know when the Ballot opens for 2013 - I feel the need to doante more money to charity, not get a place but an ill fitting top, and run Brighton instead - for a change image
  • Thanks all,

Unfortunately had to defer my place from this year, so am just trying to get ahead of the game (and maybe stand a snowball in hell's chance of actually getting a hotel room near the start for 2013!)

Cheers and good luck to all running next month

  • This may be an off-the-wall, whacky, way-out suggestion, but here goes....

Have you tried asking the organisers?

If anyone knows, it will be them.

  • what a crazy idea Wilkie........but according to VLM Global HQ.....

........... ballot opens on 30th April...... but ssshhhh don't tell anyone- Imight get a place if we keep it to ourselves.....

and provisional date is 21st April 2013..........

  • Wow thanks for the sarcasm Wilkie

Checked the VLM website as well as my deferral info and there was nothing there, so thought I would ask the question here. Have heard 21st April from a couple of sources so that looks like a good marker.

  • That's what the nice young lady at VLM told me - although only provisional as I said
  • RafikiD keep that to yourself then if you are the only one who registers you may have a slim chance of a place, after the charities, the sponsers, the celebs, etc, have taken their share, really would like L.M. to let us know how many places are actually available to the 125,000 ballot

Schmunk's wrong - I find that very hard to believe!! image 'Tugs forlock and retreats....'

Dave - I've heard there's as many as 7, if not 8 ballot places available!!

    You're most welcome! image

I find that going to the horse's mouth is usually the quickest way to find out what I want to know.

  • Hi Everyone,

We know the VLM 2013 ballot opens on 30th April........any ideas what time on 30th April. Is it likely to be 12:00:01 in the morning?image

  • Dunno but I would try ASAP. I've ebtered races before the website was meant to be working !
  • I asked the nice young lady on the phone as she replied it depends where you are, suggesting they open some places at different times, a staggered start so to speak......but then she didn't sound too sure, as if she shouldn't have told me that!?!?.

I entered just afer 12:00 last year  and heard rumours it sold out within 12 hours. Made little difference, still didn't get a place......but Brighton's always nice that time of year image

  • Howdi y'all (I'm not American)

Yet to do a marathon but have trained for one only to be plagued by a chest infection! Hoping to run London next spring in Sub 3:30 which leads me to my enquiry. I've just checked the official website and it seems that the ballot is closed. How do I get a place? Do I have to go down the sponsorship route? I'm a club runner.....

  • Hi Bluemoon86 - probably better to start a new thread as this one is on a different topic, but as you've posted on this one, and as I'm reading it...

General chat seems to suggest your options are:

    1. Charidee place. Get ready to raise (or pay) several £k
    2. Entry through running club, but generally there are internal club rules such as you have to have been unsuccessful in the ballot and waited your turn.
    3. GFA place: http://www.virginlondonmarathon.com/marathon-centre/enter-virgin-london-marathon/good-for-age-entries/ - although if you're a man under 40 you'd need to have already run a marathon in under 3:10.
    4. Enter a different marathon, one that's easier to get into!
