  • Hi Graeme

Take a look at the training links at the top of the page and you will find a beginners one

Take it nice and easy, dont increase time or distance by more than 10%, have a drop back week every fourth week
Always have at least one rest day a week
Make sure you are running in the right shoes
(and) if you need one make sure you have a sports bra   image
  • Haha thanks for that and i'm big but not that big its just little things that might help me finish better cheers
  • what you need to be doing is getting time on your feet going  for runs/walks , don't be to bothered if you have to to walk , but try to power walk if you feel the need. and get your distance up that way your body will get used to keeping going for longer  times, that's what is required for the marathon you also need to get your hydration /energy sorted if you don't want to run out of steam.GOOD LUCKimage
  • Thanks william training is going well so far
  • Hi Greame

Have got a time in mind? don't be to ambitious but this can help your training along and be realistic, when you do a 10miler treble your time, and this your guide time that is how I worked my estimated time , also be positive enter some  short races and build up your distance, this will also train you not to carried away with fast runners at the beginning set your time and keep to it. My little rule when running a marathon is.             You do not win it in the first six miles, but in the last six.  GOOD LUCKimage

  • William, no i havent got a time in mind yet as my current longest run has only been 4 miles so until i run a 10 miler i wont really know

but sub 5:30 would be brilliant for my first ... i think

need to look at shorter races just to practise different things

    thanks

  • just to touch base with you hows the training going still on track for the marathon?  like too know how's it going?

    Bill.

  • but try to power walk if you feel the need. and get your distance up that way your body will get used to keeping going for longer
