Fatman to Ironman

  • Go Raf! Well done you. But I'm never racing against you - you're too speedy!

  • don't panic - I'll still be doggy paddling my way to T1 when you'd be miles ahead on the bike!! image

  • Rafikid you got a rocket on your bike? And did you have roller skates on for your run? You are far to speedy you will need to sort that out image
  • Thanks ST, now I know I'm not alone!

  • Make it another! 22 mph and 21 for 5k? Your nick should have the word Lightning in it!
  • I should point out it was it Dorney Lake - the 4 lap bike route required one gear change half way round the glass smooth tarmac, but only if you really had to. There was three 'corners' that as long as no-one cut you up (by swerving all over the track without looking - aaarrrgghhhh!!!) there was no need to slow down. I used the brakes twice - once was I was cut up and once when I hit T2. The run was equally flat!

But if I could swim, I'd be ok at this thing!!

  • Aww shucks, you're too modest.

  • Mate I couldn't do that speed or time regardless of flatness!!!

I know; possibly my only fault image

  • Nice one Rafi. Normally Dorney is good in one direction only, but having been around that way today, the wind seemed to stay at home. Shows what you can do, eh?

  • Well done Raf, fantastic times mate

Knocked out a new PB at park run myself. 24.40, nearly a minute quicker. Not as impressive as your 5k though.

Did a 70 mile bike ride after. Finished with a climb up Norwich's biggest hill. 'Gas hill'
  • Is that the same hill Lewis wants to crush at the Trowse race?
  • Bad start to the weekend. So much so, that I am binning the turbo in favour of a deep, hot bath and a large, cold glass

  • Raf, did you do that speed on a tri bike or otherwise spend some time in an aero position?
  • The hill on the Trowse 10k course is a mole hill compared to gas hill.

Lotus cars organise an event to ride up it every year. The Gas Hill Gasp

  • IY - entire ride was on Tri bike down on aeros - I assume you don't know the site - but its around what will be the Olympic rowing lake - so dead flat on closed roads, so you can really go for it!! It s was great fun!! image

  • Raf, That sounds familiar! I'm doing a race in a few weeks in Detroit on the F1 course. Flat and fast! I'm aiming for 22 mph over Olympic distance.

SD, I'll be sure to give Lewis the business about the mole hill that's giving him fits!
  • IY - that  sounds a great race! I know they do a half marathon round the Silverstone F1 course here - but its not the flat! Good luck and let us know how it goes!

And tell Lewis its about time he actually got round to changing his name on here!!

  • Aaahhhh, I see, Raf - it was the course that made you fast.

  • Rafikid they do Duathlon round Silverstone to image
  • ST - thats sounds fun, might have to look into that!!image

Well, if you're intersted times yesterday:

     400m swim - 11.10

    T1 - 1:55

    22.1km bike - 36:24

    T2 - 1:21

    5km run 21:38

I was 86th coming out of the water (out of a wave of 90!!) but had the 12th fastest bike time, the 24th fastest run to finish in 35th in my wave and 213th overall (out of 800 starters). Not bad but room for improvement image

    Ok off to the pool!

  • Good times, shame you got a kick in the face. Cant grumble at 213th out of 800 though
  • Good work on all your achievements

  • Nice day. Sunshine & warmth. Couple of cheeky 9 mile rides today & yesterday.

Open water swim tomorrow, 9 mile ride thurs then 2 days rest & my first century bike ride image

No running for me this week
  • First proper open water session this evening.

Swam the complete course, 1600m in 50 minutes. Most of it breaststroke mind you.

At least it means at that pace i would come in under the time limit for the ironman distance. Around 2 hours i believe. This has been my biggest concern. Plus ive got 14 months to get better image

    Happy days.
  • Good work SD, but you need to persevere with the FC, the only way to get better over the next 14 mths is to keep on trying, bit of FC then breaststroke and slowly the ratio will reverse!

You know that whatever happens you won't drown and you'll make cut off, now you can focus on your technique with the monkey off ur back
  • Agree mate. If i can keep making the same progress with FC that i have the last few months i'll be laughing.

Your right about that monkey, one less stresser.

Do you know when IMUK 2013 entry would open for Bolton & is it one of the ones that sells out in minutes?
