  • First day back at work, still felt the effects of New Years eve today image

Binned tonights swimming session in exchange for laying on the sofa. Training proper starts Monday.
  • I gained 5lbs over the holidays. Oh good God.

    Lardy Donkey seems more appropriate.
  • 5lbs is easy to gain and a bugger to lose !

Time to read 'Racing Weight' again I think image

  • I managed a few runs and a couple of MTBs over the hols, only put on a couple of pounds.  Time for an hour on the turbo.

  • Just weighed myself for the first time in a few months & back well over 14st. image

I dropped over 2st last year, target pre Ironman this year is sub 13st.
  • Was a lovely evening last night, was going to head out the door in just my tri shorts (and jacket) but after getting kitted up and ready, about to head out the door I found out that my rear light had packed up image not having great luck with lights, front light had a problem with it last month.

Managed to go for a 8 mile run instead.

Then was going to go swimming, turned up to the pool and its shut image grr.

  • Nothing like a missed session due to a dodgy light. image Good that you converted it to a good run though, well done.

I think you and TB are ones I need to keep an eye on this year.

  • Cheers mate   image

  • Swim trial to join NEWTS next Tuesday, 400m in 12 minutes, so tried it twice this evening ... 10 mins and 11 mins.  Chuffed with that.

  • You'll enjoy NEWTS. They have cracking sessions at the NISV.
  • Nice brick session last night 45mins on turbo then 32 min run all HR zone 2, 8mm run guess thats okay, legs felt okay. I got a 10k off road race on sunday that was cancelled in Dec due to the flooding. I'm going to use it as a trining run i think and cycle there and back to get my long ride in.

  • Well done Tim, really chuffed for you.

    Good luck for Sunday TB.

Did my first "Bingo" day of the year yesterday - 5 mile run, 10 mile bike, 1 hr swim.
Swim was crap because of chesty cough.

  • Question regarding candance -  is a garmin 305 sensor worth the £40.00, i'm using a perceived candance currently and was wondering whether I should spend some cash as the Fink plan is based on HR and candance.

  • I have a cadence sensor as part of my cateye computer and have found it useful. I think it helped me to learn to spin the pedals more rather than mashing them in a bigger gear.

I also use a Garmin 310xt on my bike but haven't bothered with the cadence sensor, if the cateye one dies I'll get one then.

  • TB - you cab get the GCS10 at Amazon for £28 at the moment. I got one and was surprised at how slow my cadence was on the road, so for me it was worth it!

Although you might want to look elsewhere as Amazon are being extremelt slow at the momment - I pre-ordered some crappy Tri book before Xmas and it still hasn't been dispatched!! Whats that all about - don't tell me they've sold out already Holgs??? image

Crappy Tri Book?? Thought you had Fink already ? image

Distibutor fooked up - suppose to deliver on 27th Dec, all sorted now. Amazon posted the copies I'd ordered to me today, so it does exist. Should be in shops next week as well.

  • image ahh - I had an image of you sat outside Amazon ripping the final chapter out of each copy, not happy with the wife's bit!! image

  • I've read the wifes bit on my kindle but I will keep stum. image

  • I read it on Wednesday night when I finished reading the whole book - sounds egotistical but I wanted to read the complete book, rather than just completed chapters.

    I enjoyed Em's chapter image

That would build some serious arm strength.

  • Thanks Rafki and Holgs

I've just ordered one from amazon bargain at £28, I don't mind the wait but expected 27th Jan did seem a little extreme.

  • TB - I have found the cadence sensor really useful when I have been on the turbo

my copy of the tri book has been despatched from amazon todayimage

  • I have the Cateye and the Garmin with no sensor ... I dont need no gadgets to tell me to HTFU   image

Swim swum, at least i'm good at something  image

  • Off to the pool tonight. If I can remember where it is, and it's not flooded. Now where is my swimming kit...

    Duathlon has a certain attraction.
  • Get on with it you big girl  image

I was considering buying a cadence sensor but, for some unknown reason, I've suddenly gone off the idea.....................

Ran Wed, turbo yesterday, ran today, rest day tomorrow, run & turbo Sun.

Could have been flooded with the Thames. Not quite as clean as the Taf!

  • Nice swimming !

I have developed a bit of earache so I suspect I have some extra pool water somewhere
