Yes, the padding issue is, well, an issue. Has taken me long enough to find cycling shorts/tights with comfy padding, so not sure I want to change to something else. Still think I'll order a suit and see what it feels like.
Yippee! Fink arrived in the post today. (Hubby - "Great! You're going to be fit enough to do the ironing" Funny man)
I think they're great up to about Olympic distance and maybe a HIM. HIM or longer, I'd take the time to change into cycling shorts and running shorts. A few extra minutes in transition is worth it if you're not trying to qualify for Kona or something else like that.
I feel the same way about a bike fit (also a great investment). Sure, you'll be faster if you hold aero in that exact position the whole time but how many of us "regular guys" can do that? So I chose comfort over being aggressive in some cases.
Hi I have been thinking about giving this tri thingymagig ago for a while, been reading a bit and lurking around here for a while reading some other posts, and I am staring to think that perhaps I may be able to do an IM in 2013 (taking the maths classes from gastank, and I think that 2014 for him is a swear word). As soon as I get a job and the entries open for 2013 I think I will sign up. Having never done a tri before it is a little scarey atm.
What would be a good first timers IM distance event?
Outlaw looks like a good one to start on, I had been thinking maybe IMW, to get a few extra months training in and it is probably the closest one to me, and could maybe take a caravan done there to stay. O well decisions decisions.
Ordered the other day on the kindle, to impatient to wait for the postman to deliver Read it all too, and already sorted out a training plan to lead me up to trying to improve on my half marathon PB in Oct.
First day of training plan was yesterday - started with a rest day. Can't start off too quickly
I'm in to brake my IM duck in 2013 was hoping this year but outlaw sold out sooooo quick. I know they re opened for 50 more places but I've not done the training so 2013 it is
By the time your in to your training you will be wanting the top of the range Garmin GPS running watch too...and one for your bike.... Too much shiney gear in this sport
Garmin edge 800 on my bike & just got a Garmin forerunner 110.
I used mapmyride on the iphone for my first 6 months of training. Does the job if your on a tight budget. I still upload everything to mapmyride site as well. I like the workout calendar. Plan routes on Garmin connect as its not as clunky as mapmyride.
Last big kit purchase is the wetsuit. £100 budget for that. Should be gerting it on Monday, although cant try in open water as apparently the lake is too cold to open for swimmers
41 mile cycle last night, 3.5 mile run tonight, shins are stinging a bit.
Going to go for the competitive training program from the Don Fink book, although i will be perfectly happy just to finish the IM within 17 hours.
I have a Garmin 310. My 305 fell off the bike so I upgraded .
Next big purchase will be some bling wheels. I'm not sold on tubs for LD triathlon. I can't justify throwing away all that training and time and expense for the sake of a punctured tube.
I'm doing Fink's intermediate, but only 2 swims per week. even that is a large amount of time.

I'll check out the Zoggs. My open water training begins in a couple of weeks.
Cheers
Hoping Be Iron Fit will arrive today.
What are the vet's thoughts on buying a tri suit?
never seen a horse in one
oh - that sort of vet!!
well if you want one, why not?? suit or 2 piece - your call
some advantages - you can wear it in all disciplines; no need to change; dries quickly; comfy
some disadvantages - padding for bike is too thin for many; can be expensive; suits are difficult if you want a dump
overall - get tri specific kit to do tri in
with my vast triathlon experience i'll agree with FB.
1 Tri & 2 Dualthons Tri-suit has been great. I wouldnt fancy spending more than an hour in the saddle in it though.
I'll be doing a full change between disciplines at the IM
