I'm with dan lodge -- I slow down without the iPod. My music mix keeps me at a steadier pace. I also keep mine low enough that I can hear someone talking to me. Contrary to what Liverbird said, I think music adds ambiance to a run. It's better than listening to the gasps and grunts around me for nearly 2 hours. My iPod is flying with me either way, but I'll consider skipping the music. It all depends on how I feel race day.
TC - I'll never be convinced! Never needed musical inspiration. I'm too old school - or probably just too old
You only have to look at iTunes to see how popular running compilation cd's are. Not my preferece, I tend to make my own playlists but Nike brought one out for 10K last year which I liked. Not long to go now!
I think Tour of Merseyside sounds good, especially for those of us relatively local. I think the mileage would probably be too much for me (especially with only a few months to go, maybe it was autumn it would be different), but if individual races could be done I'd be interested depending on where you were doing them.
LB - why were you giggling??
Coughie - 2 races in Sefton, 2 in Wirral, 1 in Knowsley and 1 in Halton. As I mentioned earlier the plan is for a tour of Merseyside, not Liverpool.
There are no individual races. You have to take part in all six. Probably restricted to 300 entries. Details will appear on our web site as and when confirmed.
Does anyone know the maximum time limit for this race?
I entered when the application process opened, however, I have done some damage to my right ankle and leg today and it is so painful to even stand
However, being a student I dont want to just throw away the entry fee so I am still going to run it (even if i am not fully recovered) and walk for a bit when the pain become too much
There isn't a time limit as you are off the public highway from 8 miles. If you walk from before this point then you may have to walk on the pavement depending on the road opening programme.
The bridge at 11 miles will be in use after midday so you may encounter a delay there if you are taking more than 3 hours to complete the course. This is highlighted in the race instructions.
Blimey! I suppose I am famous - everyone in our office (!!) knows me.
Medals arrived today, just got to take them out the bags now.
Wristbands for BTR Team members have come in so will be going out tomorrow with the cards.
Nope. LB has a very important role to play on race day!!
is she doing security detail for unofficial runnners? I'd be terrified and I've got a number
No. Her involvement is Top Secret but if you look closely you will see her (or hear her!)
Nice to see so many of you out around Sefton park this morning and hello to everyone who took the time to acknowledge me. i was doing some last minute checking of course distances around the park. Pleased to report evrything is spot on.
Roll on next Sunday!!
Very excited for next weekend. We have 4 ladies from our Run England group who are doing this as their first race. They are like coiled springs. They did a last long run today of 9.5 and wouldve run and run if I'd let them. They have all gone mad.
I hope the teeshirts are nice as we are all doing the school run on monday wearing them
Gah! The east coast of the US has just been slammed with snow again. All of my races and most of my outdoor training days this year have been miserable -- below freezing temps, ice cold rain, or slipping on ice. I'm looking forward to a much more temperate race next weekend.
Eek, only a week to go! I for one am looking forward to a taper and some end of the week carb loading
First time taking part this Sunday. Really looking forward to it.
Just a couple of quick questions if possible, was aiming to get there for around 8.15am, wondered how the starting pens will be split up in terms of estimated race time? I'm aiming for 1.40, so wondered if it' be split off into 2/3 packs, perhaps?
Also, with the starting pens, is there crowd access close by? Just wondering for pre-running clothes to be able to keep a hoodie, jogging bottoms on before passing them on to my partner before running?
Alan, I noticed on the website that the race is full, would there be any last minute entrys available if people drop out before Sunday?
Ive sent a message to your website as well, I just thought id ask on here too if it was quicker.
No entry transfers I'm afraid.
There aren't timing pens just boards indicating times. This is a new start area so we will see how it works but pens won't be neccessary.
Think I'll come along to the Pasta evening on Saturday, so hopefully see some of you there.
Cheers Alan, thanks for the answer. What about the crowd access?
Just wondering what time it is advisable to arrive by on Sunday morning?
Never ran the race before but looking forward to it! Are people encouraged to stand further forward/backwards at the start line according to their anticipated time?
Crowds can stand alongside the start / finish line.
Get there for no later than 8.00am, it will be extremely busy. Time boards will be in place for those who choose to acknowledge them.
Silly question Im sure but we dont have to register any further details do we? Im sure last year it was just turn up and run.
Just turn up ready to go.
