image Just in case for the newbie's best to keep your mouth shut if you are overtaking someone on a hill or you might get some extra nutrition you didn't want. image image

Thank f*ck there's no hills in the Outlaw swim! image

  • Swim - mandatory before, occaisionally during

Bike - tried failed and justuse a porta loo

Run - errr porta loo ortree

Dont wear white shorts if trying this..... the run at lanza had a few gross examples of this......
  • Just to add is it worth it! I went on the. Bike 4 times at Austria last year, if I had stopped that would have cost me well over 10 mins by the time I got back up to speed! So definitely worth it. Haven't managed it on the run yet though, never needed to go when swimming, but I'm young and can hold on for an hour!<img src='https://us.v-cdn.net/6027274/uploads/forum/smilies/wink_smiley.gif' />
  • and never swim behind me as i can't stop myself peing numerous times in the swim............I drink lake water constantly and it has to get out somewhere

  • I went about 20 times on the marathon at IMW - that's probably 20-25 minutes lost on the run alone just jumping in and out of portaloos! That's why I want to work out how to do it whilst running!!

  • GB - just let go - it's as simple as that.  I think most of the hang up is psychological than physical.  although if you're running well, like swimming, your core will be tight so you need to learn how to relax the core to let go

  • Can't pee while swimming, I have to stop. Bike only when I'm going down a hill and I'm not pedalling, I have to stand up. Haven't had to when running, didn't stop once at outlaw last year.

I did pee on the bike once in training just to see if I could. I like doing it in races, it amuses me image
  • I think that is exactly the problem! What was also annoying was that because of the extremely high frequency - it was getting uncomfortable having to wait to get to the next portaloo.

At least at the Outlaw there is a massive lake and then a river I could just go into image

  • i had a similar number of loo stops on the run at IMW - i think we both overdid the nutrition

  • I think there was just something in the water!

  • errrm -  I only had one pee during IMW and that was as I came out of T2.  perhaps I got my hydration wrong....image

  • Wasn't it Candy who had peed on the bike forgetting that his bento box was attached to the seat stem rather than handlebar stem. Seem to remember he only noticed once he'd tried a couple of slices of slightly bleached maltloaf.

I'm sure someone from the Pirate ensemble peed in transition once, sadly on a dry day before the swim so rather obvious I guess...

  • I think the esteemed pirate king noticed his error before eating any of the affected items.

One of the highlights from JD's IMDE report from 2006 was him successfully describing a (possibly first time) T1 'on the move' pee to the soundtrack of 'what have you done today to make you feel proud'.

  • I know Candy peed in his wetsuit in one of his first Ironman races.

Except he didnt wait until he was in the water - he was on a bone dry concrete slipway. Nice flow of pee running past his fellow athletes feet.

that was me - and mentioned it on a previous page

  • Oops! Thought Debbo had done so too thinking about it, what do I know...?

  • I remember a bloke at Cheter Oly last year wetting his suit during the safety briefing on the pavement near the bandstand. Just stood there, listening politely, with his arms folded, while a pool of his piss accumulated around his feet and spread. Classy.

you don't need to stand close to me then pre-race - that's usual for me as well.  often more than once.....image

  • Just a bunch of piss artists!
  • On the LCW earlier this month I was desperate for a wee on the bike course, but as it wasn't officially a race, and as I was surrounded my a lot of cyclists on a clear bright day I didn't fancy doing it on the go.

Anywhoo there just was no where to go. I kept hoping for a discreet gap in the hedge to appear and for miles there was nothing. Finally I came to a gate in the hedge and decided that would have to do. It was set back from the road a little but there really was nowhere private. I didn't fancy climbing over the gate with my speed-plays on. There were loads of cyclists passing and I was seriously regretting purchasing bib shorts. Every Time I was set to go another peloton would come up the hill. image

So in the end I went to the roadside and shouted down the hill at the top of my voice, 'Eyes *that* way please'. Much laughter  followed and most of them did look the other way. imageimage
When you've gotta go, you gotta go!

I am sure you just added to the beautiful scenery
