What is your current power song?

Just a lighthearted thread - what song makes you run harder/helps you get through your toughtest runs?

My current fave is Ya Mama (Push The Tempo) – Fatboy Slim and Moguai image

  • I find cheesy 80's rock the best to keep me going - can't beat running to a bit of Meatloaf or Bon Jovi when the going gets tough (oh, and Billy Ocean!). For some reason, my feet won't run to 'cool' music!

  • Summer '68 by Pink Floyd has been doing it for me on the last two runs, hadn't heard it in years, but since hearing it again on 6music, it's been on repeat in the Ipod in my head.
  • 'She sells Sanctuary' The Cult

  • The Verve. Bitter Sweet Symphony. Not really a power song. But it works.

  • The Heavy - Ain't No Place For A Hero.

They used it on the soundtrack for Strike Back on Sky. (Terrible TV)

Luckily it didn't ruin it for me.

  • ACDC Thunderstruck. most ACDC really.
  • Closer to the edge - 30 Seconds to Mars. (This week)

  • Hard-Fi - Hard to Beat image

  • +1 for Thunderstruck ( has anyone ever written a better gig opener??) and the Cult

    I like

    The Prodigy works for me
  • Oh I had The Prods this morning. Colleague runs to Enya. Mental.
  • My number one track for increasing my pace at the minute is Titanium by David Guetta (think thats the spelling!)

Isn't it strange how certain songs take you back to moments in running. I only really use my iPod over night in ultras, but one track takes me right back to a forest running past a bloke in a tent with a small campfire outside and another tales me back to reading on this years thames100 and a steep flight of steps.
  • Diabolo Rojo by Rodrigo y Gabriela is doing it for me at the moment, great race finisher!

I might learn that one day.

    (Teehee!)

  • For the last month or so, Shake it Out by Florence.  Ceremonials is a great album IMO

  • I always have the ipod on random and I was running through the woods a week or so ago, when just as it was starting to rain, three songs came on in succession which seemed like perfect running music.

Electrelane - only one thing is needed

    Chris leibling - loops 2

    Holy f*ck - Silvia & grimes

I came over all emotional for a moment.
  • VAST: Thrown Away.

Always is and always will be

  • Ca plane pour moi by Plastic Betrand. Can't beat a bit of Belgian pseudo-punk to get you going.

Edited because apparently RW can't cope with cedillas. Sorry French-speaking people, I do know how to spell 'ca'!
  • Foo Fighters - Walk is an excellent song for running to. Starts off quite low key then builds to a proper rocky end.

Another vote The Prodigy too. Brilliant stuff!
  • There's nothing like Smack My Bitch Up when you're running on a treadmill in the shop window at Lillywhites at 4am at 16.8k/h.  Apart from Vienna by Ultravox.

  • Shinedown - Diamond Eyes....reminds me of our troops on active service...

  • Bles the lord my soul - Taize Chant also any Byzantine music

99 Problems Jay Z and I quite liked David Guetta Titanium

  • sad i know but the rocky song were he ends up running up the steps

  • Gonna fly now - Bill Conti (Rocky Theme to everyone else)

It's been my 'current' track for about 5 years now!!

  • Dakota by Stereophonics. Can't bear the song but for some reason it seems to be working for me at the moment on my runs. Maybe because I go faster in the hope of finishing before the song does. My credible answer is probably Pounding by Doves. Also enjoy running to anything by Hadouken and We Are Scientists.

  • Anything by Status Quo, as the beat is perfect for a steady pace run.

  • 'Born to Run' by Bruce Springsteen. Obvious choice I suppose, also 'Thunder Road ' also by Mr Springsteen.

  • Ha ha! Some great choices, I was struggling along this morning when Fallen Angels by Black Veil Brides came on, it certainly got me moving in mile 9 of my 10 miler.

  • bink 182 "always" slow start then builds up to a fast tempo hen as you have give everyting over the last 200 yards picks up again to help you over the line !!!

  • The fastest on my Ipod is "Sabre Dance" by Love Sculpture. Whenever it comes on, I increase my pace to try and keep up with the tempo.

  • The floral dance with Terry Wogan. I just imagine thats coming up behind me and I run like F.
