Had drowsiness and sore throat now for four days but has not developed into anything ? just irrationally hoping that tomorrow will wake up and feel fine.
Richard - was there a specific reason you picked that song? the lyrics 'nobody said it was easy' resonated with me this morning!
Sorry to hear of your woes, Skinny. If it's not developed into anything major yet, it probably won't now, and you'll likely forget about it as soon as you're into your running. Hope so anyway.
Feck me, the tempo was hard work. Given my recent lack of mileage, I think the volume of 2 x 2 miles was a bit ambitious, something that occurred to me as I was totting up total mileage in my head on the way down. Now waiting for the endorphins to kick in and make it all seem worthwhile!
Well - I managed to keep up the SG Race Coaching Manual of requiring medical attention - fortunately mine was for more like 2 and a half minutes rather than two and a half hours and, crucially, was after the finishing line.
I think my time was between 1:26:30 and 1:27 - I can remember thinking that I had even missed my B target and then it was all about getting off my feet and lying down.
I'll report more fully later but I basically ran the race the hard way - went for 1:25 - after 2 miles the stomach thing started again, my legs felt weak and I knew I was going to have a miserable last few miles - that's how it proved too!
So big PB and pleased that I got the best time I could on the day. Full more boring report with all the grizzly details to follow later.
Richard - sorry I missed you at the end - I was lying down on track for about 15 mins then went looking for you but couldn't find you. how did you get on?
I wasn't sick but my collapsed position of choice was recovery position just in case I was - this meant I got a St J nurse sitting with me trying to make sure I kept talking - except I didn't talk and her crack wasn't very good from what I can remember.
Coach - think my 10 mile PB is 73:29 - ran 10 in 65:21 today - after that is a bit of a blur.
Great stuff, Skinny! Let's hope it's around that 86:30 mark for the 5 RB handicap, and elevation to their Category 1 band. Look forward to the gory details later - not quite as gory as Lit's last week by the sound of it, but some pain to feed the voyeuristic sadists in us.
Thanks all - Richard that's a shame - you sounded so upbeat at the start - did it just never happen or was there a point in the race where it all went wrong?
I'll leave the full report till later (it's a pain fest Bob!!) - while Downton Abbey is on probably!
Sorry to hear that Richard, though I'm relieved to hear it was only metaphorical rather than actual shit. Someone on the sub-3:15 thread recently ran a marathon while recovering from gastric flu.
Sounds messy - although i wore my undies beneath my shorts today just in case (not sure how effective that would have been in the event of an accident though!)
Okay, so I have been thinking about race socks, and I can sort of see the point if they are a pair of socks the same as your other running socks, but saved for race days. But if they are completely different socks then I don't see the point because if they are better for running than other socks, why not get more the same?
Oh, and hurry up and get a proper race report written, please.

ok - got a 4.8 done incl 5*strides - chip collected - ready to roll in the morning depending on how I feel.
Come on, you've got a whole fortnight's worth of sporting disasters to redeem now. No pressure.
Lit - not sure I understand what you mean?
oh, just thought our coach would like it if someone managed a massive PB, and it isn't going to be me.
Oh I think this has just clicked into place for me - are you suggesting that I maybe caught the virus off David Moyes??
Moyes and Stevie just had a little known medicine called Januzaj to give them a tonic!
I'm looking for my bottle of Januzaj in the medicine cabinet!
Good luck. I'm sure it won't be another disaster. I think having a Belgian teenager run it for you might be considered cheating.
Anyone know how Stevie's mysterious 'third horse' is performing?
Race number on, chip on, race socks on.
Time to find out how ill I really am!
Go and give it some welly, Skinny!
Haha, race socks.
good luck skinny.
hope you have some race shoes on, otherwise race socks won't much odds!

Woohoo! Well done Skinny. Were you sick? All the best SG runners are sick after the race.
very well done Skinny. And classic you in not even being overly sure what the time was! How can you have a 30sec window of wonderment?!
Either way, that's well over a 2min pb, so it's cracking on nicely.
I've written your next week schedule already.
It's Monday to Sunday OFF.
Let's use this week to get the illness/niggles out of your system.
And then begin a light build up to the 10miler in November, where your pb is so soft, I'm wishing I charged you, and by the pb!!
Richard - sorry I missed you at the end - I was lying down on track for about 15 mins then went looking for you but couldn't find you. how did you get on?

Yep, we aren't taking any bets on a pb at the 10miler!
1 week complete rest, 5 weeks gentle buildup to the 10,
Then we'll see if you can find a local XC series or something, and re-start the base period, with some 2014 goals.
Skinny - congrats in the pb

Bad luck, Richard. What went wrong?

Depends. Were they your lucky race pants?
No specific race pants

DIYing at the moment - when Downton Abbey is on I promise excessive details as usual!
I will also reply about the race socks conundrum!
Nobody said anything about DIY ?
If we don't nip this in the bud, standards could slip.
