  • The Essex Chav catchment area is Dagenham, Romford and Thurrock, extending to Basildon, via Wickford and Rayleigh.  Basically, everything south of the A12 as far as Southend.

    I heard an explanation of the word CHAV coming from a contraction of CHeltenham AVerage, so possibly the Gloucestershire town is high on the list!

    I've heard that version too and would suggest that parts of the place are indeed a bit pants (think Hesters Way) but it's not a touch on Gloucester.
