Steady. Have you heard how she got on? I didn't hang around long afterwards and had a long drive home. See my race report in the tri forum, I met Jane at the weekend, she is lovely and, yep, a true heroine.
The 39-year-old mother-of-three took six hours, 37 minutes to finish the mammoth challenge of swimming 1.2 miles, cycling 56 miles and running a half marathon of 13.1 miles at one of the world's hardest events at Sherborne Castle in Dorset.
There was a thread a while ago asking people who inspires them to run, and she is definitely my inspiration. I can't read or hear anything about her without ending up in tears, I really don't know where she finds the strength and determination!
What a phenomenal woman. I read the report about her tri achievement in this morning's Metro and felt very, very humble. It just goes to show that there really are no limits to what the human body can achieve.
She is awesome! A true 'Giant amongst Dwarves'. I do Triathlons and am not man enough to do a Half Ironman. Jane completed one in a respectable time and she is in ill health. It makes you realize how HARD some people try. Awesome.
Jane is a fantastic inspiration to the rest of us. It's really humbling to see people like her putting their illness aside and doing what they want to do with the time they are granted. I've seen Ironman finishers with one leg, or one arm, and in 2001 even a blind woman, also blind cross-country skiers. These wonderful athletes bring tears to my eyes and should inspire the rest of us to try and achieve what these folks have done and continue to do.
