Stray Runner. Sorry, I didn't misunderstand what you said earlier. It all made sense. The point I am trying to make is that people need an average pace over a race as long as a marathon, simply because it's not possible to mentally keep track off each mile or km. this is on the assumption that some 'laps' will be above target pace and some below.
Forgot to switch my watch off at the end but I think it's 3:37 - a PB by about 5 minutes. Got boxed in at the start and was then playing catch-Up, but really pleased with the time. Bad cramp now though..
If I tell you what PB was before, you wouldn't believe how much I knocked off. I'm slightly shell-shocked.
It's more anecdotal evidence to back Yer Maj up about tempo training. Been doing intervals for last six months. Weekly mileage has been slashed compared to what I was doing before Paris. Gone from about 75 miles a week to about 45.
Nice one Weedy. I only averaged about 30 miles per week in the last 16 weeks, but I did a lot of tempo runs. I slumped badly in the last 5k, probably because I was pushing too hard to try and make up lost time. A few lessons learned today that will help in the future....
I know someone else from this thread who has completely trashed their HM PB And another person who has miraculously completed a race distance with virtually no training at all. Aye Karumba!!
What a day!!
Yer_Maj - the whole point of Tempo runs (sometimes called Threshold runs) is to maximise the body's need to adapt to lactate overload, thereby moving the point (speed to lactate concentration in the blood) to a faster speed.
Intervals are primarily about increasing overall cardio-aerobic capacity (VO2Max).
Seems I did keep my HR high today but still felt like a bum race. Slightly sore throat all week.
Congrats to all the new PBers! Amazing stuff. Have inspired me to get off the couch now that the in-laws have gone ... although maybe I wshould wait a couple more hours for the cottage pie to go down first
Stray runner - they all count. Berlin last year was a PW for me. Frankly, considering the mental/physical shape I was in, it was incredible I even did it. But it made me all the more focused on improvement this year. I've a long way to go but they all count.
It's the marathon. It is incredibly tough. Well done on completing it!
SR - not to get all 'accentuate the positive' but you've done 26.2 today. There were good bits, and no doubt bad bits, but next time (Paris!) will be better for what you've learned about yourself today.
RM & RS- freat running. Congrats on the sub 4 times. What a pair of stars. i heard conditions were good but the course extremely boring...more details please

Come on the rest of the 'damers.
Well done both of you. Sub 4 ladies.
Enjoy your frites and mayo.

Woweeeeeee !!!!!!! Sub 4, mahoosive congratulations to the pair of you. Dead proud of you both

Well done Simon. Sounds like some great running over there today.
Anyone heard how Kaz got on?
Well done RS, RR & Simon
Got myself a nice shiny new PB - 3.46
Off for a shower as I'm slightly stinky. Well, more stinkier than usual
Weedy - Amazing. PB's crashing all over the place.

Quality, not quantity's my new motto.
Note to self more interval training. Certainly some inspirational running coming back from the crew in Amsterdam today.
On that note does anyone know a good sub 3:45 training plan?
RS and RR: woohoo! Great running! Well done - can I try run next to you in Paris?
Simon and Weedy: Awesome numbers - well done!
I think the secret to a PB is hanging around this thread
Dannirr - I hope so!
Fantastic, RR, RS and WG! I think I'll have champagne.....
Dannirr - It worked for me I set marathon, half and 10km PB's this year.
Marathon - 4:01:50 to 3:49:41
Half - 1:48:07 to 1:43:51
10km - 48:41 to 47:09
It's going to be tough to top that. Those are the biggest jumps in PB's I've seen in years!
What a damn fine idea, ATM. Purely medicinal for me, of course...
I have succeeded in my sub 2 hour half marathon 4 weeks earlier than expected.
I did the Great Brum run in 1hr 55 mins and 23 secs.
I am chuffed.
Well done to you others who completed the finest endurance test of the marathon.

Now get out there and enjoy your evening off!
Went through half in 1:45 and then things got messy. in retrospect I don't think I should have even started it as wasn't prepared.
Good thing is I know what I need to do before Paris and then my goal won't look as ludicrous as it does today.
On the bright side back home in Harrogate already and wfh tomorrow.
