I currently have red hair but I ain't charging up no hills image

What if there's a beer at the end of it?

  • yer majyer maj ✭✭✭

I don't like beer.  I have tried very hard to, as my life would be so much cheaper if I did, but I don't....

  • Eggyh73Eggyh73 ✭✭✭

Surely all true ginger ninjas would be whisky drinkers?

  • Your kind offer of abusing me in another language Emmy is unlikely to cure my cist. It might make me laugh though which isn't a bad thing. I accept MP3 recordings. The red hair sounds a bit scary. Probably safer like this.

Welcome Ant. It's a madhouse in here. I fear that many of our new friends who registered for the mara in the last week might have been scared off or are lurking. I'd gently encourage them to come out and say something; it can even be running related if you want.

For my knee injury, I really don't know what the long term solution is. If I run hard, I get a bit more swelling in the back of the knee which is uncomfortable. Then it goes down gradually which is fine, or it seems to seep suddenly into the calf which is bl88dy painful. I don't know if this will just go away with a bit more time or if it will stay like this, or get worse.

Is the solution another op, injections, amputation, give up running, go slower and take up ultra running?.... I don't know. image

@Eggy - Whisky is my favourite tipple... but i'm extremely picky. It's Bushmills, Oban, Macallan....

  • Definitely considering joining the Ginger Ninja's running the Paris marathon - just need to check if my legs are still working after the Amsterdam marathon.

I looked on the Paris marathon website and the fees gone up to EUR 95 - did anyone accidentaly get two places and are able to transfer one? Not sure what the rules are about this....

  • Eggyh73Eggyh73 ✭✭✭

Emmy - Being Scottish and a whisky drinker I refuse to count Bushmills as anything other than a waste of a bottle! image

Now a nice Macallan on the other hand is very nice.

  • E mmyE mmy ✭✭✭

@Elisabeth - was that last week's rave? I was quite amazed that I managed to get on there! I'm still working my way onto the marathontalk podium!

@Londonliv - welcome to the madhouse!

@Eggy - I'll have you know that Bushmills has a lovely vintage... and bring part Irish - I like to support the economy by purchasing a bottle or threeimage

I agree with TD - welcome to any lurkers and newbies on the thread. Everyone is very friendly here image

  • yer majyer maj ✭✭✭

    Mmmmm Macallan....the best whisky image

    TD - amputation and blades?

  • Eggyh73Eggyh73 ✭✭✭
Ah well, groin injury appears to be a groin injury and nothing the GP can do for it. Wonder if a physio would be of any use?
  • Homeward bound! It's going to be a long boat trip. Juniors gotten her contact lenses! She did amazingly well at the fitting, back to Aberdeen in 5 weeks for a checkup.

Eggy - DLR will be along to comment shortly!!

Emmy- canna get link opened on this phone but will look when I get home. Already checked the price o flights thou. image
  • Eggy..   yes..  this could be something for a physio..

Anyone here done any fell running or other type of specificaly hills based running?   I'm interested in doing some over the winter period...  I'm looking for an 'entry level' run if there is such a thing...   any suggestions...?

  • Wow this thread moves fast image

Well done to everyone who ran in Amsterdam on the weekend! Friend of mine decided to go with a couple of weeks training and blasted out a 3:24! Grrr to natural runners image

Anyone doing Suffolk coastal this Saturday??

Also can anyone recommend a good running backpack/bag (preferrably with camelpack space)? I need to get one soonish for compulsory kit list. Can't always trust what customer reviews  would be doing with it image, I'll be looking at running with it half to full marathon distance

  • Eggy - Scotland have many fine single malts, but I'm with Emmy_H on this one... Bring on the Bushmills. (I rarely drink whisky - when I do, I like it to be something more than medicinal!) The distillery's cool, the Bushmills Inn is lovely, ah, Ireland...

Also, Eggy - the physio might be helpful, but unless GP boy has requested it, it'll cost...

Seriously hot, here...about 23 degrees. I have only my Scotland-end-of-October- gear and look like Greek widow...

    This amused me significantly.

Have a look at the FRA website DV.

Eggy - pity you hadn't been in Amsterdam.  There seemed to be a number of places that specialised in massage for that area.

    As requestedimage

Iain - I know it'll cost, although probably a good bit cheaper than the ones DLR is suggesting in Amsterdam!

  • Emmy - no it was a Marathon Talk from just after the Olympics.  You were raving about the kindness of complete strangers whilst seeking water for your LSR.  Have you got another rave?  Well done.  I got on the podium once after Rome but that was only because no other female had submitted their time image

Tricky Dicky - sorry to hear that your knee is causing you pain again.

  • Trickster - I'm not loving the idea of a weeping cyst image  Can it be drained do you think?

  • Mark..  I use this...http://www.chainreactioncycles.com/Models.aspx?ModelID=61700

There is a slightly larger one too, but it depends on what you want to carry.  The camalbak is 1.5 litres and it carries 2 x 500ml bottles in the chest pockets.  It is absolutely comfortable.  No bounce, no chaffing.  Fits perfectly and I can totally recommend it.  The other pockets are rather compact, so its not to go camping with..!  I paid about £140 for mine, so this one on an offer is a good deal.

  • @emmyh... Are you on the marathon talk podcasts?
  • E mmyE mmy ✭✭✭
@elizabeth - I remember now! It was th weekend of my first tri. I was on "Rate your run" this week, that's why I wanted to ask. I was over the moon when I got #3 one week (there were only 3 women who posted times!). You also got on there for Medoc if I remember correctly.

@stray runner - yes -I'm a regular marathon talker. I love the podcasts
  • E mmyE mmy ✭✭✭
    Bugger... Pressed send too soon.

    Do you listen too?

My kids are really scheming!!! They are now looking at flights to Berlin?!?! And with the reasoning that naomi can do the kidz run on the Saturday!! They even reckon that if planned properly they will only need two days off school...... When I even suggested the affordability I got scorned at and told to take it out of their future cos experiences/opportunities like this cant be replaced or wasted?!?! I think they've been secretly visiting cafes!!!!

Love it!  and they didn't even get to meet the forum massiveimage

Legs seem to be easing up...but I have a feeling they might make a comeback.  Got into work today and colleagues had been looking up my time image Was high-fives all round as I walked in! imageimage

now...this paris malarky...anyone with support feedback let me know.  i'll do an update on the supporter notes and suggested spots for release in januaryish (supporters have a shorter attention span so gotta send it out closer to the time).

  • anyone want a quick dose of inspiration this doesn't get boring, watch the last 3 or 4 laps of the 5k and the following 5 mins or so and then blast forward to the end bit where he's chatting with Bolt.http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/olympics/2012/live-video/p00w335z

I wanna see Farah step up and win the London marathon in a few years and Olympic marathon Gold in Rio - now that would be something. The last 600 metres of the 5k are amazing - he squeezes up the pace slowly and somehow has the strength to kick twice on the straight.

Radar - I'm afraid Mr Maj says he has some feedback for you....

  • btw - anyone entered Berlin before? is it easy to get a place, i don't quite understand how it works - if you pre-register are you guaranteed your place?

  • Having a job to keep up here!! Hope you lot don't run as fast as you type, or you'll leave me for dust in April image

Well done to all the Dammers! How many marathons do you lot fit in in a year?

I'm back to running aftre a stinking cold. Les than inspiring weather and it was foggy and dark by the time i left work so laps of Ross on Wye untill i'd knocked up 10 miles but was great to be back to it after a week offimage

I wait with anticipation...dread...something in between those.

  • RS - you want to spend 12 hours wandering aimlessly around an airport. Does wonders for the muscles - everything feels fine today. Apart from the fact I'm so knackered I barely know what day it is.

Mark - have a look at Decathlon on line. They have a good range of running backpacks in different sizes. I have one of last year's models (they've changed the design now) and it's been really good. And they're quite cheap.
