  • RR and RS - hope it went well.

DLR - Thanks for the offer, very kind. Think most of the people I know who'd go have already got tickets, but I'll keep my ear out.

  • The JimbobThe Jimbob ✭✭✭

18 miles at 7'42 per mile average. Went out a little lively but settled nicely. Could have had a couple more but didn't want to overcook it.

Well done to the triathletes. I await news of TP's half

  • DLR - thanks for the offer; I'm at work but will ask pals and let you know.

RR - sounds great; hope it was fun.

TJB - you are on FIRE dude!

    Greetings from San Francisco image

arrived yesterday to find I'd made a bit of a rookie mistake - I hadn't checked for running events before coming.

Today is the San Francisco marathon. They also do two half marathons. Had I known I would have done the half image

It started at 5:30 am local time, so didn't get up for that but the finish is close by. So we'll go down later and shout some encouragement.

I survived my Hen weekend.  There were guns and everything image

Orbutt - I LOVE San Fran - have a great time.

Nice one, Tri Peeps.  Although the thought of Radar Sal revving up at that time of the morning is a bit mind boggling image

I'm off to roast a chicken then lie on the sofa.  I wasn't even drinking last night either.  I may be getting old...

  • Well done to the Triers.  Any action shots?

Well done to YM on surviving the weekend.

I've got my compression socks on and am putting up my feet.  It wasn't so much the half that hurt, it was lugging my suitcase back from the field all the way into town to catch the train ... but loved the race.  Running through villages and the countryside on a mix of tarmac, track, grass and gravel, past war memorials and cheering locals with a nice flat finish.  Only thing missing was some cider at the finish, there might have been but the queue at the food stall put me off.  I would recommend this one, and the full mara sounds good too after speaking to runners that have already done it.

  • Orbutt - no escaping marathons for you image. That's how I ended up doing Paris the first time - I happened to be there on holiday and thought it looked fun, so I signed up for the next year.

TP - sounds like a good one. Have a cider anyway.

YM - you had a hen weekend and now you're cooking chicken image? Was there a disagreement?

So, I'm now the proud owner of a tri medal and a tri t-shirt, which is a bit of a cheat having only done the shortest bit but that's not going to stop me wearing either of them image. I can very much recommend running the last leg of a tri relay - you get to overtake all the poor buggers who've already done the watery and wheely bits and are starting to flag. We were a racing machine - Stu had the swim nailed (6:45 am start -aaargh), handover to RS was perfect, she came in well before the team next to us image  and that set me up nicely for the run. I wore my lurid Long Run t-shirt, and my best moment, (as I was elbowing the meaty tri-boys out of the way on the hill half a mile in), was the spectator who shouted 'looking good in orange!' image. Also the water station outside Eton College - terribly polite young chaps. Not my fastest race in just under 50 min, but it's a twisty turny 3 lap course, and if I'm honest, I've not done as much training as I would have liked.

I can't say the experience made me want to sign up for a full tri (way too much faffing about) but I gather it's a good one for people who like that sort of thing. They've been doing it for years, so it's well organised, and it's easy to get to (the start is very close to the station).

And the bike course is pretty good. No hills, a few undulations, really fast last 10kms, could have done with a few more road closures and no 180 degree turn though. Is that a better report simon? I 2nd the team bit being the best bit. I was blasting the last bit while all the meaty boys (yup mostly boys that didn't take it kindly when I passed them) took it easy into the run.

  • That's much better thanks. Sounds great (to me) so it's on next year's list definitely.

  • yer majyer maj ✭✭✭

Can we all come and point and laugh??  Sorry, I mean Support...

  • Radar SalRadar Sal ✭✭✭

The lycra factor along with the rubber suits are well worth it.

Oh and WOOOOOOHOOOOOO WAY TO GO KAZ!

    Great running everyone else.

  • Sounds interesting TP - hope you have managed to devour some well earned cider.

RR - I am partial to a bit of faffing, it's all part of the attraction.

YM - pointing and laughing is OK. Just leave you gun at home.

TJB - great running, as always.

    Enjoy SF Orbutt.

Kaz - Well done, sounds like you aced the course. image

Orbutt - Enjoy SF, great place to visit. A wee trip into the Napa Valey isn't bad either!

Well done TP, RR and everyone else running this weekend. I've decoded to enter some races top get some structure back into my traiuning. so the Perth 10km, Stirling 10km and Cumbrae 10 mile are now on my hit list.

  • E mmyE mmy ✭✭✭

Ok - I shall wear the "stupid" hat today. Got up - read my plan and it said: 5 tempo miles.... so went out for 5 tempo miles without thinking (it was early and I was still half asleep).

Get home and go to note down my times/pace etc and suddenly wonder why it says: July....

Orbutt - Enjoy SF. I had friends running the full marathon yesterday. It was surprisingly hillyimage

Eggy - That sounds like some stirling races!

  • Radar SalRadar Sal ✭✭✭

Eggy - nice that you're coming up for air occasionally. How's that speedy girl? Good selection of races.

Emmy - stupid hat vs pushing a little for fun..you decide.

    I'll take that image

How are you doing after the tri?

  • Orbutt - Shame about missing the race. Have a good time anyway.

Well done tri team and TP. Always fancied doing the London triathlon as a team if anyone fancies that next year.

Hi Everyone, I didn't like the idea of the FB group but I must say I'm loving the photo and DM contributions.  Well done to all the weekend's runners and riders, although not many (or any) PB it seems that everyone's having great fun.

Does anyone look for Weedy's hidden film ?  Last week's was Mouse Hunt.

Kaz - congratulations.  Will you be charging us now for any advice ? Most people on here should be 'certified' but your's official !

ITLR - Great to see the T-shirts, I'm very jealous.  Do the runners have more than 1 T-shirt ?  8 days, 1250km...... It's going to smell lovely in the tent.image

Fancy a race next time? image

    Oooooh bike porn image

Hmmm that's not good - did any bits of you fall off?  Is the bike ok?

  • The JimbobThe Jimbob ✭✭✭

..... and what a superb film it is ....

  • The bike is bent (not that one, fortunately it was on my road bike) and I'm a bit worse for wear. Luckily I bounce well, and the human body is an incredible piece of engineering. I'm mostly without pain now but have an odd click to my knee when I walk - having an MRI to establish that it's alright and I can return to training in time for IM Switzerland (6 weeks - eek!!).

Fit or not though, I don't think I'd keep up with TJB for 18 miles - that's some cracking running! image

  • Sitting in Manchester airport waiting on a flight to Edinburgh. Had a wonderful day/ evening with my brother and family only spoilt by my mother and sister spitting their dummies out about my children. Now world war 3 is brewing! But as my brother pointed out, they always have to bring me down. image

    Well doneyesterday's guys!

Great escape - ace film and I am wearing my Steve McQueen tshirt today-how bizarre!!!

  • Radar SalRadar Sal ✭✭✭

    Emmy - legs are fine.

Engineer - I think you'd resoundingly boot my bottom on that beast of a bike. Good to hear you escaped reasonably unscathed. Always freaks me out a bit how vulnerable we are on bikes, especially when there's a bit of speed involved.

Kaz - refer them to your certificate and where you live. It's not east London.

People can choose how many shirts they want. Most people have between 2-3.. talking of shirts - IF anyone wants a shirt in the next batch - please let me know asap as i'm trying to get an idea of numbers/cost. I know that a few people have asked so want to have firm committments please....

Everything is done at cost - so we're not making any profit from them. If you'd prefer to donate some money - here's the link: http://www.justgiving.com/Longrun

Kaz - tell them politely where to stick it.... promptly up their rear. I've met your girls and i've never seen two more friendly and well behaved kids. They're a credit to you - if only more kids were like your two!

  • RS - It wouldn't matter! And now in true adult style they've turned all phones off!!!

  • Radar SalRadar Sal ✭✭✭

Kaz - well, that tells you how valid and mature their views areimage
