Hi Mick The ultra looks like a seriously good race. However, if you havent done an official marathon in the last year would proof of having done other ultras in the last year be a suitable substitute.
I the Connemarathon last year, and have entered the Ultra - just so I can run round that part of the world for another couple of hours. Brilliant place, unique event, great people...
Mick - have just checked out the entry qualifications, and the only comments I would make are:-
If the cut off time is 5 hrs at marathon point, why is the entry qualification also at 5 hours. When running an ultra, you always start at a conservative pace, and for this distance you would not expect to maintain your normal marathon pace for the duration of the event. So if your entry requirement was 4.45 and cut off at 5, that would make sense.
The cut of time at 13 miles is 2.15, Out of 25 marathons and ultras I have run in the last year, 12 marathons were under 5 hours, but have never reached 13 miles at 2.15, and I would certainly not attempt to make that time in an ultra, when I know I would need the energy for later in the race.
What is the time limit for completing the event? - sorry, must have missed that on the website.
I assume you are one of the organisers, i will email you over the weekend re another issue (not a moan!!)
Was seriously thinking about doing this ultra, but not with those cut off times.
Looks perfect for a holiday/race affair. Very very interested. Will make commitment in early January if that's still possble. It'll proably rain, but at least it's 'soft' and warm. Thanks for the shout...
Comments
I will probably agree part way through.
...and I was thinking of entering the same event...
depends on what I decide for my scehdule next year.
nb WildWill are we still on for IM Florida 04??
>>>>Shakes head in disbelief<<<<
i may need a giggle in my life next year
do you know which are the conditions to take part in the ultra?
i guess you need to have finished a marathon under a specific time, like the comrades do.
Jose', I don't know. I did Edinburgh in 3:37, I am hoping that is OK for them.
About time eh Steady?
Full info on this Ultra and the conditions will be posted tomorrow on our website www.connemarathon.com
Now, if we wait long enough,
Mick Rice will find us... and then we'll be sorry.
Questions about this....bring'em on....and.... I'll make up some answers
If there are any comments or questions I'd love to hear them.

39m run, yes indeed you're mad, but best of look and hope you enjoy our hospitality.
