Running on a broken leg!

Manteo Mitchell broke his leg during his 4 x 400m relay heat but kept running because he didn't want to let his teammates down, and the US team still finished the heat with the joint fastest time.

That's the kind of teammate you'd want!

  • Hardcore, bet he never takes an easy way out on reps!

  • I know, makes me feel guilty about every skipped session for colds etc!

  • Could this have stemmed from a stress fracture? I'm confused how his leg could just break otherwise. It's not as if he was in a fall or something unless I've missed something.

Little Ninja - Apaprently he had a fall in the Olympic village either in the lead up to he race or in the day or 2 before hand.

I am not an expert but I is it possible that with the leg muscles those guys have it could mask a minor injury to the bone but the exertion of a flat out 400m would put it under too much pressure, hence the break? Maybe?! Could also explain how he managed to keep running if there is a lot of muscle to compensate for some of the support lost by a break of the bone?

  • That makes a bit more sense. Thanks WiB image

  • Well 'ard bloke!image

  • Still sounds incredibly painful and hardcore, antone remember that Coventry footballer David Busst who broke a leg during a televised match and you can see it bend before it snaps, yuk.

  • Monty Python and the Holy Grail comes to mind... 'It's just a flesh wound'

  • Maybe he was drunk too?

Isn't the fibula a non weight bearing bone so that's how he continued?
