I'm planning on racing under the Pirates banner.

Only issue I have is you seem to be intent on racing it!

Most of us aren't that good and focus on drinking, having fun and getting round. So if you truly are racing quick then get the beers in at the end and we'll be along later. image

    Welcome aboard.

  • Great you're doing Outlaw - that'll be my first too. Would love to meet you - if I'm still alive at the end!!! I do hope this isn't your last post - there's a lot of support to be had (and given) here - so welcome!!!
  • This is my first post on here I thought your post was so brave I simply had to delurk to say I am also hoping to complete Outlaw as my first and will gladly buy you a drink after we finish!

Thanks karma, nice of you to offer!

  • Don't really see what difference it makes - or why anyone should object.

    Enjoy the journey image

  • Welcome aboard the good ship PSOF! Whatever your personal status is,I am sure there won't be anyone who wears the yellow and black who gives a damn about anything except getting to the finish, having a great day out, and downing lots of beer at the after-race party.

The pirates are all inclusive, we have a special needs son and he has been so welcomed by all the pirates

Right up to the point where he cleaned up at the prize giving - not fair image

  • Outlaw 2013 will have more pirates than last year and there were a ''shed load'' in 2012 , welcome aboard and glad you have chosen the outlaw , see you there!

  • I'm going to try and come and support Outlaw this year as it's not that far from me.

  • C146 I think the biggest pirate event will be Henley which is the official 2013 championships... So not sure there will be more of us at outlaw in 2013 BUT there very definitely will be a large contingent - 'twas a seavof black and yellow for sure

    It's on C4 tomorrow morning at 6h35

Only cause he got 2 awards and you only got one!!!!!! image

  • gastank, will get to Henley or wherever the pirate championship is in 2014 if finances allow , on the nightshift finishing at 0700, should be able to see the Outlaw before I bike home for some sleep !!

  • welcome one off,  outlaw is  a great event you'll love it.

  • Thanks everyone for all the really positive response. I didn't expect to get anything less but I've an enormous respect for people on this forum, Pirate or not, because of the willingness to offer help and advice to everyone.

Yes, I will be at The Outlaw but will probably be staying at a hotel as parents, sister and her family and my own family will be there, so we might have to forgo the camping this time to allow for the 70 year olds and 3 year olds.

I will be continuing to contribute to the forum but will be doing so under my normal profile, I just created this one so that I could be sure of people's reactions, and its been what I expected it to be image

@me..face - I think I'll be racing for that 16:59:59 spot. Anything quicker than that and I'll be celebrating for a weeks. Will happily stand you a couple of beers if I finish before you though.

@seren - I met a few people at the Grizzly and also at Bala in 2010. Bala was where I properly got to know what it means to be a Pirate when a certain young lady Pirate was escorted into the last couple of miles into finish by the Pirates, after everything was packed up, and was able to run through the finish tape.

@Gastank - thanks for the reminder, I'd lost track of when it was being shown on TV, off to set the Sky box to record it.

  • One off, looks like you have seen more of the pirates than me, only bumped into them just before and at Outlaw. Your comments and those of the pirates above remind me why I signed up to the ship, 3 cheers for everyone !

  • Best of luck with your iron distance journey! image
  • Enjoy the journey in all that you have chosen. We're all only here once, so you have to do what you want to do, and do it now. As with everyone else, you'll get full support to make it to the end.

  • Hi OneOff,

Just wondered if you'd thought about whether you really have to enter as male rather than yourself? Though I wasn't clear from your post whether you would be entering and racing as male or entering as male, racing as female. It would seem a shame not to enter and race as yourself. I guess it would only be considered a problem if you win/place in your age group but it would be possible to remove yourself from that competition. TBH, it's not like like there is money, signifcant prizes, kona places or prestige on the line. I wouldnt object to your winning my AG for example.

If you think you really are going to be 16hrs then in my view there is no reason why you cant just race as yourself. If you think you might be finishing in 10hours then you could consider contacting OSB to say to want to race as yourself and not be considered for AG ranking.

    best of luck

    I agree with Melli.

I think this is a trend forming among some pirates.

You may wish to contact the race organisers to discuss your options.  They are great and I'm sure they would be more than happy to assist.  (There are probably BTF regs regarding TG athletes too, which you may find useful to explore, should you so wish.)

Oneoff did we talk going round the grizzly in 2010? Feel free not to answer if you want and just beeing noisy.

  • Hi all, after all the lovely responses I'm going to come out from behind the OneOff profile with my normal one which I've been using since last year. Previously to that I was using the Griffin profile and it seems that I've been around the forum since 2004, where has the time gone.

Cake, I'm not sure if we met going round the Grizzly, its quite possible. My main memories of the day are of shingle, cold water, mud and hills and running with and chatting briefly to a few Pirates.

Melli, M..o.use, I'm going to contact OSB and discuss things with them when entries open.

image I'm really looking forward to doing this now.

  • What everyone else said +1!

Good luck, my first next year too (though not 100% which IM I'll be doing yet).

image It probably was then I know there where a couple of other pirates on the course but didn't see them. If the pirate in question was skipping down the hills and heckleing everyone then we've met in the real world and hopefully will again next year for some ironing action.

  • dim tim follow your heart and enter the outlaw.

jvr , I used to be a Police officer when I lived abroad and we had a TG  officer in my recruit class, I only mention this to back up the resonses above in that every organisation is much more all enveloping than their exterior may lead you to believe! If the macho world of policing have sorted themselves out then the wonderful people at OSB will be sorted...
