Both my wife and I are about to replace our running shoes and once again meet the same problem. We are both happy with our current shoes and want to replace like for like (mine New Balance and her's Saucony).
Can anyone point us to an upto date site/article giving details of what shoe replaced what?
As an example, my wife currently has Saucony Progrid Phoenix 4: is it as simple as thisbeing replaced by the 5? The RW review of the 5 makes no mention of what it replaces - if anything.

I thought you meant you gave your shoes names, and found it difficult to think them up
My Asics Gel 11## just go up by 10 each year (eg. 1160, 1170, etc.,).
They are not exactly the same, though - one incarnation (can't remember which one) was much firmer than the predecessor. Fortunately, they returned to their softer selves in the next generation.
I call one of my running shoes George Michael.
Because it got pulled off in a bog.
Thank you.
Bad dog!
Yes.
i name mine Left and Right and write L and R on them to avoid any confusion.
Adidas do the stupid naming all by themselves. Supernova Glides...
And No.
As Wilkie said, the manufacturers make small changes to the 'new' version. Some of these changes may be good for you, but some changes you may not like.
Thanks everyone (loved the shoe names lol).
and some of those small changes can result in a trusted favourite become a hated shoe. so it's always best to try and get a short test run in whatever iteration yor new shoe has become.
Mutts - nice one....
You can name them John Free Running Shoes.
Thanks again everyone.
This naming thing has got out of hand (well foot) lol.
My wife has just bought her next pair and Im about to order mine.
Thanks again
(And Sara if I call them both John, how will they who Im talking to?)
