Hi everyone. Well I'm really gutted I'm out of GNR. Ive trained all year and few weeks ago my Achilles started to hurt but stupidly tried to keep running. I then decided last week to give it a week of rest so went out today to see what it was like as ok to walk on - I got five minutes into run had to stop and walk home it hurts more than before. Just need some advice please - I realise I need to stop running for at least a few weeks - will I be ok to swim and bike and also walk ( as doesnt hurt when walking) to keep up my fitness and stop weight going on or I should I not exercise at all ?
Starting in zone C. Did 20 miles on Sunday and 6 last night. Will jog 4 miles on Friday and do a few sprints before travelling up on Saturday.
Six weeks to go until the Snowdnia marathon. Was thinking of taking Sunday as some kind of training run but what the hell i think i'll try to push the pace and do the very best i can. I may never get to run this again.
some very sad news today, my wife's grandmother has passed away at the grand old age of 96. All the family very upset but do I stay at home to support her or do I go sand run ?
I know what I wanto do but will have to see how it goes
Sorry to hear that Shrek, I guess it depends what your wife wants you to do, if there is nothing you can do and she is ok then maybe you'll be fine to run.
Cant access RW from my phone so hope to catch up with some of you before the race & wish everyone a safe & enjoyable race whatever the weather
Steve J - same here! Wasn't going to taper for GNR and see it as a normal training week for Snowdonia, but GNR is great, I had a superb PB last year, so will cut my hill training session this week, do a gentle 6 miler tomorrow, and see what I can pull out of the bag on Sunday.
Tea cake 75 sorry its already been snapped up. It's a brilliant run as I live in the area and I'm gutted especially as love running and can't see doing any for at least a month. hope you get a place or try next year....
Still looking for a last minute place if theirs any going. In Newcastle Saturday and partner doing her 1st HM would live to run with her to help her along!!!!
Netty Noo, Thanks for letting me know. I have done GNR many times in the past and love it too. Didnt apply this year as I was training for Loch ness marathon on 29th Sept. I cant go though, my son has to go to Uni that weekend and cant miss that... I am fully trained and need a race....am gutted too so I know how you feel.
Hi again as per my previous post due to injury I cannot run on Sunday - I had a buyer for my place but they have pulled out. Its short notice but would anyone be interested in it . You would have to pick it up as too late to post I live in the Sunderland area.
I seem to remember that the weather forecast was a bit iffy last year but turned out to be good running conditions with a cracking tail wind all the way down to Sth Shields. I'm still optimistic for Sunday! Good luck all. Have a good one!
netty noo if your place is still available I'll take it off your hands.have sent u a message with contact details.. Will be in your area Saturday .. Thanks andy
The baggage buses are on the embankment above the A167 carriageway. They sit along the road facing the rear end of the starting pens.
............. Its probably a 5min walk down the sliproad to the starting area.
And the rest! One year I nearly missed the baggage bus because it took me so long getting to mine. Alright if you're in the front zones but a bloomin long slow hike to the buses for the back zones. Allow plenty of time to battle with the crowd.

Have a GREAT day everyone !!!!!!!!!!!!
Cheers bearsted plodder. It is good news. Really looking forward too it,feel in good shape and ready to go!
Daddy Cool, There are pacers this year. I believe the fastest is 1hr 30. The main challenge is probably to start somewhere near them.
John,
Nothing stopping your mate standing at the back of Zone C, and you get to the front of Zone D.
When they pull the rope out that is separating the Pens, people push forward anyway.
My first GNR and looking forward to it.

It's a big 6 weeks. Wanted to do the GNR and Snowdonia Marathon for a few years. I couldn't imagine i'd do both so close together.
Woke up this morning with a sore back. Seems to be easing now so will do some gentle stretching later and an easy 5 miles tomorrow.
From Tuesday back to the long runs/hills. Can't wait
Ok I've made my final decision &ill see everyone in the usual spot pre race and Sat midday ?
just 1 day of work then a great weekend & seeing some friendly faces
does anyone still do the green ribbon thing ?
No running for me this week, I feel like a teletubbie..
Never mind the rain, it's the forecast 16mph headwind with 32mph gusts that has me worried!
It can't be in our face all the way to South Shields, can it?
On the BBC yesterday the weatherman said the wind would be at the backs of the runners for the GNR.
As they can't seem to get the weather right from one day to the next we are probably in for glorious sunshine or snow.
Wind is a SSW so should be at worst of right shoulder and behind from Mile 3 to 10 unless my local knowledge and geography is not good.
Shrek great news see you at bridge
Vixx - see you there as well and I am sure wind willbe helping - Let the Force be With Us

I'm setting of in a few hours so I'll wish every one a great run See some of you soon
I really should have trained for this . Never mind, I'll enjoy it just the same. 2 more Halfs to do this year and also the Great South Run - Yay!!
Ok so I did my final taper run yesterday, legs have tightened up badly. Calfs and quads feel heavy. Any advice on what to do with two days to go?
I have trained well, drinking plenty of fluids etc.
Stretching Is a given, but anything else?
