My OH has informed that once again he will pay for my entry for this for my christmas.the only other time he has done this was last IMW when i didn't finish...........I hope he doesn't buy a dud ticket again

Gimme a slap for saying this, but I thought u finished in 2011, when I met you with M.Tri?

    What happened?

I've decided my DNF at IMWales in 2011 was character building.  I've also decided I now have enough character!

Here's to us all crossing the line in style in 2013 image

  • no its my one DNF......missed the bike cutoff by 10 mins.........too many things went wrong in the build up and i wasn't stong enough on the bike ..my legs just weren't workingimage

  • Bugger image

Well you got further than me on the bike!  I was pulled off the course at 92 miles by the sag wagon who told me there was no way I'd make the cut off.  Best swim of my life followed by worst ever bike!

    How was your swim?

  • ok.about normal just over 1:30.and loved it...........but got on the bike and my legs wouldn't work...pushed and oushed even in the last few miles hopeing they would be lenient on the cutoff.but not to be.............

didn't go back this year as i knew i would have to rest well after the double

so have a some unfunished business next year

  • Oh dear... best friend has signed up as an introduction to triathlon... says it will be his only one... needs support... the seed of temptation has been planted image

    I hate my friends!

  • Go on GB, get your entry in.  The we can have a sweepstake on whic corner you'll fall off.  My money's on Wiseman's Bridge image

  • Any other IMW'ers planning on some reconnaisance time next year?

I was thinking about doing a Sat & Sun on the bike course early season, May? Saturday do the big loop of 70 odd then Sunday the 40 loop.  Coming back say July time to do the full distance on a Saturday & maybe take in 2 laps of the run on the Sunday morning.

After all time spent in reconaisance is time well spent.

  • Final RV, sounds like a good plan, im not doing Wales next year so wont be there but just responding to let you know there is a Long Course Training weekend organised by the IM Wales team 14/07/2013

    http://www.longcourseweekend.com/

  • Hi Final...yep...we're gonna be there (staying at kiln park from the 4th) for a week from the may bank holiday weekend.....mate of mine is gonna take us round and you'd be welcome to join.

lots of people will go and do the long course weekend in July too (though i cant make it) which will give you the chance to do all three course of different days to see how you stack up.

  • didn't realise they had changed the date to july./that might work for me..when is outlaw

  • The Long Course Weekend looks good, there's so much on that weekend, Magnificat Sportive in Newbury & the event I'm doing in prep for IMW the Maximuscle Marlow 1/2 Iron Distance race which I'm paid up and entered for.

So plan A it is then a long weekend in May & a Saturday in July.

  • let me know the dates and i might be able to get there

  • Just a word to the wise, the run course for the long course weekend isn't the same as the IM run course.  It's an out and back to Pembroke- very scenic but undulating (and with some really nasty ascents in the second half)- finish in the centre of Tenby is grand.

  • Thumbs up on LCW from me, whatever your IM event. The only downside was camping in really bad weather. If I did it again I would upgrade the accommodation.

I sure will, I'll post up here see if we can get a few together to go and check out the route.  Incidentally I was looking at the IMUK bike route which is only about 200m less climb that IMW, I don't see people making such a big deal of the IMUK bike route and yet other forums there seems to be a lot of noise about it being too tough for an Ironman event & even some suggesting it was not a fair test.  I know the weather is a big factor but really?  Not a fair test?

  • the climbs in wales are a bugger because the descents are too technical for me so you can't get a fast pace to make up for the slower uphills..........

  • Seren's right

Every downhill has 2 90 degree corner at the bottom.... So you have to slow right down, then climb up the next hill from virtually zero. image

I did IMRegensburg in the rain in 5:30

I did IMWales bike in 6:30

I did IMLanza bike in 6:00

Hope that puts it into perspective....
  • Gotcha, so a thorough recce is in order in the spirit of no surprises.  Thanks.

  • hubby just got my entry in so i am officially registered image

  • Go Seren indeed. Me, I'm still dithering.
  • comeon MTri............you can help me swim faster in the taff for practice in the springimage

  • It's about 90% definitie, but need to sort out a few issues first, then I'll book in and be back in the rivet
  • M.Tri -You know you want to image

    Good on you Seren!

  • Spooky, just on the computer sorting out training phases etc, warm up races. still to enter though
