bl**dy hell, I've missed PAGES of this. Since well before Xmas, in fact.
Hilde - when you say home, do you mean Oxford? My brother's there this year, I might even make the stupendous effort to drive 40 miles to visit him and pop in to see you.
I'm a bit of a sh*t big sister, but then, he isn't the greatest brother - he only phones when he wants something!! :-)
I have done literally nothing since August. I managed to work myself up into a complete state about it (and other things) last week, and completely fell apart in front of
a) my boyfriend b) my boss c) my doctor
and it still didn't achieve anything. So I'm not going to bother worrying. But I have set up an automatic email response so if my supervisor tries to email me he'll get a message saying I'm in the States for 2 months. And if he tries calling me, I've got his work, home and mobile numbers screened, so he'd have to be pretty cunning...
but meanwhile - f***, f***, f***. I'd pencilled in this weekend for thesis stuff, and now I need to go back to see my parents on Friday night.
I wish I hadn't seen this thread now, I was doing a really good job of forgetting about life for one evening!
General introduction These are small (29-45 amino acid/3.5-4.5 kDa) carbohydrate free peptides which have a net positive charge at neutral pH., making them variably cationic.
Defensins were first detected in rabbit and guinea pig neutrophils[Zeya, 1966 #22; Zeya, 1966 #23] , and are widely distributed amongst species including mammals, plants and insects. Defensins exhibit marked homology between species. They are thought to play a crucial role in innate immunity by virtue of their antimicrobial activity against a wide variety of micro-organisms. Human defensins were first isolated and purified by Ganz and Lehrer from the azurophil granules of PMN, where they constitute >40% of the total azurophil protein[57].
Snail, yes, home is Oxford. And I still can't imagine how you manage with a full time job. It's more than I could do (which is why I'm leaving here early!)
hi Hilde. I don't manage! I just use the emotional equivalent of sellotape to bind everything together, and hope that nothing falls out of the corners.
Anyway - I'd rather be in Oxford than Norway any day... :-)
Hilde, I have done absolutely nothing since your last post. I am seriously considering taking next year off, on the grounds I'm not doing anything anyway. I am never going to finish it and it's just one of the many things that are depressing me at the moment.
Pass the gin, there's a love...
ps - when are you getting to Oxford or are you already back? Will you be there for Town&Gown 10k - May 16th? I'm thinking of doing it, and having a jolly in Oxford - my brother will still be there so I might make it a weekend.
I'm getting back in just over three weeks' time. Did town and gown 10K (56 minutes!) last year, and want to try again this year. My training is awful, but I don't care. Apparently, there will be a new course - only one lap instead of two. Do come along.
p.s. I may show up at Mudchute for FLM. Will you be there, or running?
won't be at Mudchute - will be at the end of my road! come and join us if you like. Might well come over to mile 18 later on though - if I cycle, I could be there within 20 minutes.

Big hug to Snail! Do you want me to do some of your thesis for you? I can do joined up writing and everything.

Has everyone else finished their thesis/degree?
But hey, I got supervisor feedback today (on a 5 page section of writing which I sent them over a month ago). So perhaps there is hope?
Three weeks and two days my friends...
