There is no specific rule that says that (having just read through the rule book). Rule 9.1 says:
9.1 Competitors shall use no aids other than a cap, goggles, nose clip and costume, which may be a wetsuit, for open water swims
However, that doesn't cover what is under the wetsuit as everyone would have to be naked underneath. They would then be breaking a more serious rule (nudity is a potential instant DQ in the rule book) when you take your wetsuit off.
There is no specifics for pool based tris, so 9.1 could be interpreted as calf guards not being allowed where a wetsuit isn't worn.
Having said that, I wasn't aware of this in the pool sprint I did last month and along with lots of others wore calf guards in the pool and wasn't DQ'd
EP - you wouldn't be able to wear compression socks as they cover the feet, but you would be able to wear compression calf guards which go under your wetsuit.
don't think I will have time for a coffee in T1! I was thinking about having a sandwich - can take bites inbetween putting shirt on/helmet on etc I thought. Not sure if I can survive on gels for the whole ride
The btf rule will be broken by me. I can either wear my compression guards or a full stocking due to a medical condition and dvt in my left leg. I'll be checking tomorrow
I have just come from the event on today at HPP... water temp was given at 14.3, it was a tad cold and I would reccommend two hats if you feel the cold, once you get going you get used to it and I would suspect that will rise a bit more after a couple of nice days weather wise
registered, met steady, saffers, southern snail and matt at the race brief, watched a bit of the afternoon tri, bought some arm warmers and now at home wondering what on earth I am doing!
Registered, briefed, met Chris briefly before the briefing, then did an hour on the bike course to check bike and body are all working properly (they are) now chill out time.

Timmy G, I got a warning for wearing calf guards in a pool tri last month, it added about 30 seconds to my swim time.
good luck to everyone at the half this weekend
I've just bought a little flask for T1. I shall be stopping for see coffee after the swim!
think if I get to the 1 pm briefing then pitch tent and wander round expo I might drive round the course after that?

the new btf rule is, you can't wear any coverings on your arms or below the knee during the swim, includes a wetsuit swim
The btf rule will be broken by me. I can either wear my compression guards or a full stocking due to a medical condition and dvt in my left leg. I'll be checking tomorrow
