I managed to knock my heel on a concrete step at Easter time. I saw the podiatrist in August and after a lot of manipulation and prodding he thought I'd bruised my heel bone. He recommended plenty of padding under my heel and no running. Does anybody else have any ideas as it's not improving and I miss my running.

Heel taping can help, particularly when you start running again. It's fairly simple, and explained well at link http://www.spinalhealth.net/XT_files/XT-inj-fatpad.html
In the meantime, heel cups can lessen the impact/stress on the heel when you walk. Ones below are a good better than common-garden variety http://www.simplyfeet.co.uk/p-2241-dualgel-gel-heel-cup-soft-spot-2.aspx
A bruised bone takes time to heal properly unfortunately so no instant remedy springs to mind.
Thanks I hadn't thought of taping.
....that's 6 months ago.
Are you sure it's bruised? That's a pretty exceptional statement...The bone structure in the heel is well designed to take lots and lots and lots of load. There's little soft tissue around there and so I'm not sure what there is to bruise, especially if it's not getting better.
I think I'd head down the road of recalcitrant plantar fascia issues....
Is it more painful when you first get up and walk? If so likely pf. Can mitigate this a bit by stretches of foot ankle etc before you get up. Otherwise roll on golf ball etc
