Heow , A massive toffees fan but also love footy and a son who loves man utd.....would have been nice to finish in old trafford. tempted but never gone further than 13miles at the mo
Support was fantastic, particularly considering the weather. I do think they've listened regarding the problems. Won't be running it in 2013 'cos desite the weather I ran fast enough to get a GFA place for VLM and I'm not yet ready for racing two marathons in two weeks. Might return for 2014 if it fits with my ultra schedule, to get a decent time for a good pen for Comrades.
My memories of GMM 2012 my first marathon, fantastic support from public, water stations & stewards. I liked the route (even the Dun!) and ran all the way. Gripes were no gels after 1st station & no space blankets left when I got there. Not sure if they had enough or runners had taken more than one. Will not run this again as like to ring the changes. Plan to enter the Marathon of the North on the same day. Just love to run! An activity I discovered when I was 40
Lily nice to hear from you again. Was considering Marathon of North but coming from that area originally I know the course and not the most inspiring - also mate of mine who ran it last ear said was not great
Hi BP: thanks! Since I live down London way I wanted to run it just once (more into trail running/ultras nowadays).
Lily of the valley: I was given two space blankets - one round my waist, one round my shoulders, since I started shivering violently the moment I stopped running. Discovered later each was actually two - they hadn't separated them - so I accidentally used four - sorry!
I think it's a pity there will no longer be the Dunham Massey stretch - I was hoping to run it again sometime just for enjoying that part in better weather...
Bart, I hadn't ran past 14 miles last October and was more than ready for Manchester when I did it. Go for it, just start adding a couple of miles on to your long runs every now and then. (err, you can find a better marathon plan than that like but I am a bit tired tonight).
Debra, I was on Manchester thread, changed my name since, think I was H02!
Entered this as my first marathon after missing London ballott. Huge United fan so may be a blessing in disguise. Done two HM's this year in just under 1:24. Aiming for sub 3 on first marathon. Too ambitious? Is there a staggerred start at Manchester based on estimated finish or is it a free for all?
Thanks Debra but the organisers should have had more blankets as so many who registered didn't run. No need to say sorry. Thanks BP for feedback re M of the North. Struggling to find northern spring marathon. Does anyone have any suggestions?
Thanks BP have considered that one, are the roads closed? Also not sure about running a mara in May but I do love to run in an interesting place so.... may go for it!
my training for Manchester 2013 has taken on a new dimension now that a good mate (and running nemesis) has entered too. He has run about 11 marathons and has a PB of 3:57. I've run one, in 5:08, and I've promised to give him a good run for his money (although I suspect my ego is writing cheques my body can't cash, as they say in Top Gun).
Agent - train well and you will get there if you want to. at the end of the day even if you don't keep up with him think of the new PB you will have - the training will be worth it for that.
Currently considering this as an option for the Spring after doing Chester yesterday, might have to run a good time through Mancland dressed in Liverpool kit
cheers BP. It's a long shot for me to beat him, but it will at least give me some focus to my training, and keep me motivated. Anything is going to be a PB after 5:08 in 2010
I am in I think. Haven't entered yet but will do soon. Entered Conwy Half, Helsby Half and Stockport 10 in the past week so need to give the old purse a rest. Will recover over next month after Chester and get back up to 40 miles a week by end of October/beginning of Nov then will try to keep a constant 45-50 miles a week over the winter. Then will start maybe P&D schedule or just see how I feel, may carry on doing my own thing. Aim for Manchester - sub 3:45. There, I have said it.
It's the Bible ashman. The Bible of Running Gods...
Here you go. You must keep it a secret... No-one on Runners World knows about it, just Jason. He chooses only a select few - it is a special club, like Running Masons.
Hi everyone. As I have just entered this race I thought that I should make myself known. Did Chester yesterday so in a 'tired but happy place' at the moment as it was my first marathon and looking forward to having another go at the distance.
Ashman, err, thanks, I am sure there was a compliment in that...
Mark, congratulations! You do know that Chester Marathon is DA BEST in the WORLD and you will NEVER find another marathon that good ever. I am in mourning after it. I want to run it again tomorrow.
Manchester will be good fast course, you will enjoy it. Great support too and hopefully they will have learned from this year's mistakes.
ashman: really nice to hear that about you having started training already, not waiting until 16 weeks before the marathon. I've lost track of the number of people who come onto the forums to say that they're ill/injured and have missed/will miss their single planned 20 mile run and woe, woe, what will they do now??!! AARRGH!
I lost count when I used all my fingers Ashman. I will check results for ya though, interested to know meself.
Yep, agree with Debra, start now, I started last October for Manchester. I missed a lot of February through illness so was a good idea. Winter training harder than summer too so makes sense. Get lots of 20 milers in too. More the better in my opinion. Not just 1.

Anyone know what gels and sport drinks they had last year?

Lily if you don't mind a toughish one the Winderemere is the best - but it is not flat but not as hilly as you woould think
Hi HeOW/H02 - nice to hear from you.
Lily: Sorry, no spring marathon suggestions.
Lily, I am looking for a marathon around March. Might have to travel down Sarf...
