My favourite race (after Disney Marathon)
Entered yesterday. Do it every year. One of my favourites too, or at least mile 11 to the finish is
340 entries in less than 24 hours. I know it fills fast, but at this rate it will be full in a week!
took a month to fill last year, this year looks like it will 1 week
371 entries so far
I'm in, will be my 2nd as well after doing it this year.
Great event & just down the road from me.
What makes this one stand out, guys and gals? I'm tempted as Sunday XC season is over by then.
Well it is a combination really...it's efficiently organised by a friendly club, run on a lovely route that takes you gradually up to 11 miles with no real sensation of climbing, then you freewheel down the last 2 miles to a compact well supported finish area. In terms of effort, it's an 11 mile half marathon.
I'm in, did it last year (1st time) and loved it
The route is lovely after the first mile. Once off the main roads it's all country lanes, gradually climbing up to 11 miles (fantastic view). The only real noticeable climb for me was just after the water station at around 9-10 miles. It's a fast last 2 miles, all being downhill. The only downside is weather permitting. If it's bad you may not get all your training in, and the route can be icy in places - same as all winter training though!
Anyway, friendly people, friendly club, lovely marshalls, well organised. Are you tempted yet 7daughters?

Bit of a daft question but how do you enter?
I've been on the website and I can't see an online entry method - unless I'm missing something (which is entirely possible)
Its the 3rd one from the bottom
Thanks SA & UC - I'm in
866 entered now!

Andy, what do you think the key change to your training was to get that improvement. I recently improved from 1:37 at Helsby to 1:29 in Warrington. My long term goal is now 1:19:xx Cheers
Luke- i literally just ran more and consistently so for example
2010 race time 1:27:50 was off about 30mpw
2011 race time 1:24:18 was off about 40-60mpw
2012 race time 1:18:00 was off about 65mpw
also with each passing year training is getting more consistent.
its really nothing complicated, just about the hours in consistently week in week out. also its about training sensibly, not running your self into the ground, by this i mean not hammering every single training run.
1010 entries so far, got to wait till payday on Thursday to enter, hope there are still places left.
sheesh filling up quick isn't it.
I'm in (providing of course I survive Snowdonia).
I'm in, entered last night. Nice to see all my favourite forumites doing it too!
It is a good course and I also think it is because of the time of year, everyone ready to shake off post Christmas crap.
How you feeling today Andy? Hope not too disappointed re yesterday.
