Anyone struggled as badly as me with the challenge of trying to train over christmas and festive illness. Got a feeling I'm going to suffer. Reset goal from sub- 1:30 to sub 1:40
Antony, I'm with you on that ... combination of breaking myself at back end of October, and then Christmas, is pointing to a potential PW next weekend .... and todays tortuous 12 miler did nothing to dispell that either .... ah well .. time to zip up the man suit !!!
I've managed to pass on my number to another runner with the help of Steve from Helsby running club though, so maybe I'll get a better time than I expected
Afraid I think someone else has just heard they have a chest infection might have passed it on to someone else through so will let them shout up if it's still going.
Whats the likelyhood of this race getting a cancellation if it's snowy? Snow doesn't worry me but just about to book travel and stuff and being a tightarse don't want to fork out money and then be disapointed.
I have a race number up for grabs if any body wants it. Unable to run due to my ear drum bursting. I will send it to the first person to e-mail me their address, first class, for free. Hope somebody can use it . Or you could pick it up if you prefer, I live in Greater Manchester. The number will be free.
Hmmm, weather forecast for FridaySaturday could make it a little interesting ..... although I am thinking of going and hiding a pair of skis at the top of the Alvanley hill, which should make for a great last couple of miles time !
Ran thro Helsby at 7:30 this morning, Bit slippy and needed thicker gloves ! But have run 4 Villages in much worse conditions
The conditions aren't bad at the moment. Few icy patches, a bit cold but that is about it. However, the forecast for Friday & Saturday isn't great "Outbreaks of sleet and snow spreading northeast through Friday into Saturday"
Dave, know the feeling ... just been out now and forgot my gloves ... big mistake ... after 3 miles it didn't matter though as fingers were so numb I couldn't feel them !

Ironholgs - fingers crossed.
I'm noticing a large Pirate contingent entering this event. Being a bit of a lightweight, should I be concerned?
Cheers Orbutt.
We don't bite....honest.
Afraid it's worst than biting most of them will try and talk you into something.
LOL Orbutt - the more pirates there are - the higher up the field you'll finish !
Unless its the drinking you're concerned about....
A few of use can out mince you mind if thats a problem. That last place in the half is mine I tell you.
Mincing - now we're talking

Anyone else got a spare place by any chance??

Holgs and Beer & Lard were trying to off load places
There isn;t any snow here mate
You can borrow some of ours if you want?
wet and horrid when I have just run past the start and back. But no snow
I do remember running it in icy conditions a few years back... Someone from Penny Lane Striders came past me on his arse going into one corner
I remember that icy one ! I couldnt feel my feet til mile 10 !
Yes, I've run this in quite poor conditions so I think unlikely to be cancelled. They usually put updates on their website if it is looking dodgy.
last year it wasn't very nice.. and our boiler broke down whilst I was running it, so no hot shower when I got home !!

That's a great idea. You will have to watch out for the jump of the bridge and the sharp bend at the bottom on the hill.

Assume the race is going ahead unless the weather is exceptional. Any changes will be on www.helsbyrunningclub.org.uk
Wrap up warm folks!
