Just bought new bike. For a man with my tree-trunk legs the compact chain-ring is (a) a little embarrassing and (b) a completely new experience for me. Since I would like to race bike at Vit, I might point myself back up there this weekend.
not exactly but it was one of my first tris, i did david lloyd and thame sprints then straight on to the vitruvian, i couldnt swim the distance 6 weeks before the event ( i got a late entry ) hadnt done a lot of biking either but its not too bad at all, this is such a good event this will be my 3rd time and this year you get a hoodie before you even start
We'll certainly come down to the Horse and Jockey for a beer with you guys - we're chasing down babysitters at the moment. It's a good pub - we've eaten there a few times before.
I doubt anyone is going to coming through Oakham town on the previous night or on the morning, but just in case anyone is - they are closing the main railway level crossing in Oakham from Friday night to Sunday. Use the bridge on bypass instead.
been down today and fuck its hilly. i dont remember it being like that, managed a crappy average speed, oooh and that steadfold lane - its evil, took me a good 10 minutes to do it and its only a mile, heart rate zone 4.3, i think i was going to puke. them neewbies are gonna be toasted after 25 miles.then they got the other lap. i only did 1 lap - too knackered and OMG the run, i thought i was in the peak district, i couldnt do it, i just went home. see you all friday or saturday if i have recovered enough to actually race
Wooo - babysitter up. RP, is it too late to add two more to your table at the Horse and Jockey? If possible, we'd love to come along - if not, we'll just come down for a beer before.
According to BBC weather forecast it's going to be cold. At least don't expect to jump out of water at 7:15/30 and onto bike without adding several extra layers. I made that mistake in 2011 and spent the first bike loop shivering my poor little tits off.
With a layering strategy sorted, conditions otherwise look favourable for a good race.
OK, question - are you allowed to shed layers to support team when you come back through Whitwell after the first circuit, or is that "outside assistance"?
Perhaps not a technically correct answer but unless you're planning on winning the thing (or threatening the podium) yes, shed away. They'd be more likely to DQ you for littering if clothes weren't thrown specifically at someone!
Ellie the ripple you will be expecting, it's the other side of the lake that sneaks up on you and smacks you full on in the face! (Tis rather rolling) great fun getting the speed indicator signs to flash yousteeped (3 of them).
paperman tie your top round your waist, if you dump your top, you will get DQed,if you hand it to someone you will get DQed!
I didnt find it too bad compared with what I usually ride... perhaps I wont be saying that on Sat!!! Especially on loop 2! Hey ho... im looking at it as a fun day out which will be even better if I complete it....
Really Postie?! I must confess I've not read the rules but regularly leave kit with stewards or at special needs stops without issue. On international trips I even put name, address and reward value in case I fail to recover kit (usually cycle tops / jackets) after the event. It works.

1st time for me last year, it couldn't have been too bad if I'm back for more this year!
Which pub RP?
and what time are getting there there for registration/racking etc?
It's the horse and jockey in manton. I will be there for about 4-4.30 pm as I want to sort the tent out before I register and rack my bike.
Cool, hopefully catch up in registration then

First loop is fine, it's the second that got me!
