Don't give a second thought to the training done by others. I know someone who came 3rd in a marathon on a longest training run of 8 miles. I also know others who've done mega-mileage in training and flop on race day.
Thank you all for all the tips, still not that confident about next Sunday but I will do my best. You never know I may do another full if I get to the finishing line next Sunday! Lol...
Did parkrun this morning, didn't get a PB I was hoping for but I wasn't really pushing at the start. This tapering is making me feel even more under prepared, legs feel heavy and seems to ache more by running less!
A 1:42 HM... and all those miles in training. Definitely go with the 3-45 pace - just don't let him hold you back
It's looking like my race pack isn't going to arrive, which is a bit of a pain... having to seek it out by getting there very early on Sunday. I could really do without that.
I am at that exact point of training where I have decided that I should trained harder, but unfortunately there is nothing I can do about it! Taper not dissimilar to 15W. 12 today with a fastish last mile, 5 easy Monday, short reps Tuesday, 30 mins easy Wednesday, ditto Thursday but with a few strides, Friday rest, Saturday 2 miles in racing kit, and try and work out how to get to Chester!
Am going to try and old fashioned carb depletion/carb load - not looking forward to it, but interested to see if it works.
And hoping for a cool run next week- certainly cooled than London this year!
I don't feel like I could run for a bus let alone 26.2 miles! And I was REALLY hoping for 3:59:59 after my 2:54 for 20 miles............AND have nervous colly wolly guts!!
Just finished a 8 miler 1.09.01,that will be my longest run before chester, heel felt ok after my injury, take care now guys dont want any injuries this late in the game,Taper,Taper,Taper
Just back from 13mi to find the world record even further away from me to catch now. Agree with Mark...when you realise actuallty how fast the elites are running it's scary.
Soozy - if you were really sensible you'd carry on slowly jogging for a while after the race to cool down, and then really stretch all those muscles out. You would then make sure you eat a good amount of 3:1 carbs/protein in the 30mins following the race, and rehydrate...followed by a ice bath and then hit shower. You would then wear compression tights for the rest of the day and put your feet up, continuing to eat and drink well. But, like me you'll probably just hobble to the nearest pub (actually last year I hobbled to MacD's).
Lol! I think I can manage some of that! What is the window for the ice bath - it's going to be a couple of hours before I get home and I really don't want to have one if it will do me no good by then!
I went to the seminar with the race organisers today, and then run 10miles down Chester Greenway. Now I feel ready for next week and the excitment is building. Good to meet the 4hrs pacer also.... Bring it on
Unfinished business with this course ... Last year youngest daughter wasn't well and I only managed 4 hours sleep, had a cold starting, felt sick and hard to walk miles 22-24. Managed 4:22 which isn't bad considering (PB is 3:44:15 and year before for first marathon in Chester 2011 did 3:58:46 so was disappointed but not well). This year training has gone well so hoping for the best. Just entered Paris 2014 also. Happy running
Good luck everyone, I'm really envious that I didn't make it, physio reckons I should be back running in a couple of weeks (going nuts not being able to run).
Hope you all get round safely, and ejoy (as much as you can )

Runningbagel - go for 3.45.
Philip - yes. Too late. You'll be ok. Hopefully.
I need to stop drinking. This fine weather is not helping at all.
I think I always feel underprepared at this stage, second guessing my training, diet etc hopefuly it'll be ok on the day.
Philip

It is what's right for you - not a.n.other.

Cheers Tim.
Thank you for the advice 15 west. As for mileage.....each to their own...same with nutrition.
See everyone in a week....

runny email them, they might still send it out to you save you the extra stress on the day mate
Any tips for minimising muscle soreness after the race? Eek this time next week we'll be off!
Just watching the Berlin marathon for a bit of inspiration!
Still amazes me how fast some of the pros run, I think I could keep up with them for about 800 metres and that would be it
Looked like a world record was on but the pace had dropped a bit now.
Soozy, I'm usually too sore after a race to stretch or foam roll, you could try wearing some compression tights or socks to help with recovery.
I found drinking alcohol helped with the pain after London

Alcohol sounds good lol! I have friends visiting the day after the race, maybe I can persuade them that the best thing to see in Liverpool is the pub!
World record at Berlin 2.03.23. Wow!
Just about to go out for last training run, what more motivation do I need watching new WR in Berlin, wow just wow!

Earlier the better I think...but 2 hours ok. Whatever you do though, some DOMS in your legs is probably inevitable.
Thanks guys

Bev
I'm looking (based on my training) at 3:59ish, but I too feel totally lethargic, etc, etc, etc. I think that it is pretty normal.
Tim
I was reading that you do NOT do loads of stretching immediately after race.....too many microtearsdef keep moving and stretch later....??
Bev. Maybe. I don't usually bother with any post race recovery apart from eating loads.
Good luck everyone, I'm really envious that I didn't make it, physio reckons I should be back running in a couple of weeks (going nuts not being able to run).

Be see some of you next year.
Quick, check the bbc forecast for Sunday while it is good
Lol! I am checking every couple of hours!
