  • LOL - Hi guys - thought I'd check in to see how you all got on!  I was meant to do a 10k today but a) I'd mixed up my dates and was on my sports massage course and b) it was cancelled due to "unsafe conditions" anyway.  Would probably have been less painful to run today!

Glad to see you lot didn't miss out on a bit of mud rolling.  I have images of SG in a snorkel now!

Not sure we ran Sandhurst last year so I don't have a bearing on it but sounds like you all had a good 'un given the conditions.  Bet there were a few folk pleased we didn't show up again hee hee

(edited for spelling as my icon's not working - boohoo)

Mostly Ben Sleepy, we're always pleased to see you image

With Ben it's a case of add 1 to your position!

He should have done the saturday series down here, he'd have sometimes got an actual race in that one, as at one stage the national 10k champ raced in them

  • Our commiserations to those who were unable to complete the course, in particular Windle's Laura Hales, one of their star runners, who had to be taken to hospital for a knee laceration to be cleaned and perhaps stitched.

  • SG - LOL - he was already racing in the Mids league - he only came to TV as I was running and it was better than standing around getting cold!  We both loved TV though - Ben had a few really nice chaps thanking him for running as they felt it pulled them along a bit and ya know me - I just like jumping in mud and saying weeeeeeeeee as I run downhill! Besides - it's all about the cake in our world and we've yet to find anywhere better than TV this side of the border! image

Hope Laura mends quick - not a good day to cut yourself! image

  • Hope Laura will be ok image

Stevie G - we have a few fast races coming up in the new year from 10k to hm & a marathon in April so my OH can hopefully have a better idea of where he is at

Nice to hear from you sleepy bear! You missed some real XC fun today, running through big puddles and thick mud and the cakes after were amazing! image

Claire, although there's always people who are specialists on xc or hills, lady last year was always well in the top ten, yet couldn't come close to the same chaps on the roads, from your guys Marlow alone I think he's got plenty to come.

People were bandying around all kind of figures of what that course cost, but I reckon I'm in 1hr 16 half shape, and wouldn't be confident of a 1hr 20 at Marlow in decent weather!

Sleepy, how you can eat after a race I don't know, my appetite just dies! It's at it's peak at about 20mins before the race, where I wonder if i've timed it wrong, but never have.

Those other runners wish! Ben was generally out of their sight after about 1/2mile image

I remember one shot where he seemed to have about a 50metre lead after about 200metres!

And unlike the chaps who tried that today and died a miserable death, held and massively extended it image

ps 342 finishers today, quite a big scene this year!

  • Hopefully your right Stevie G and he does have some good races to come image  I do remember that lady last year she was a very good runner,  we also used to see her at our local parkrun and she did very well there too!

she shocked me last year, she'd gone from 2mins behind to 1min in front. She'd clearly taken a leap forward and I was a bit under par last series, but just as key she's a crazy distance off road specialist!

  • Great XC today. Towards the end I'd worked out that I should watch others go through puddles first. Some were a tad deep. Each ankle was on the verge of turning at a moment's notice.

It looks like I was slower this year than last, so assuming a year on year improvement I'll say the weather cost me 2 minutes. I placed higher this year by a handful though.

This season I'm still shoveling sandwiches down minutes after finishing, but I'm paying for it for the rest of the day.

  • Claire, on the subject of names, Team managers have the ability to make changes to their own teams.

Walking around like a robot with knee bandaged up today. Cursed this XC year so far..

website says results are out...but on clicking on results, they aren't!

Sprint, you had a cracker at Datchet, like I said to you yesterday, you came ahead of 3 guys I consider rivals!

You g ot a nasty knee. I checked mine this morning and I'm cut to ribbons myself. Bar the deep puddle incident, i'm not sure how i managed to scratch myself to billyo, as it's not like the Reading course where half the race is taking the quickest line through shrubsimage

    results are now up...

interesting with perception of results sometimes.

some guys just behind sounds pretty close when i look at our times, but then I'm the same time off the chaps ahead, and they felt miles ahead!

  • Hi all image

Sprint - thanks for the info re names, I think our team captain managed to get that sorted for us in the end image

Nice to see the results are up today, well done everyone image
  • Good results SG, nice running.

    Had a look at the Garmin splits and dropped off a cliff - 6.07, 6.35, 6.32, 6.53, 6.47

  • Hi,

Can someone help ?  I was showing the Wife  muddy pictures of the XC yesterday..now I can't find them !!

Tell me It was'nt a dream image

  • Stevie GStevie G ✭✭✭✭

sprint, looks the story of the race, i think my splits slowed each mile.

berlin, those pics make it look bone dry! But apparently those were in the last 75metres, when it was perfect conditions!

  • Hi all, Who's looking forward to facing the hills at Handy X on Sunday then? image
  • Hmmm. not sure if looking forwards is my feelings about that course.

  • Is Handy X the one with the diagonal downhill from the woods through the cow field?  It had panda cows in it last year?

Loved that course if so - do they still only have the one portaloo? Certainly don't miss that bit!

  • Hills are your friends - they make you strong!

    Repeat a gazillion times...

Or do like I do - and just slow down ya crazy fools! image

  • Stevie GStevie G ✭✭✭✭

try running down that really steep diagonal when the bottom of your shoe...ie the bit with the grip has snapped off.

    That's an interesting descent! image

  • Stevie G - I bet that was interesting, as I remember it being quite a steep descent! image

Sleepy Bear - Yes gotta love those hills! although I say that now but will more than likely feel differently when having to run up them sunday imageimage I will definitely be slowing down to more of a walk I think!

  • SG - hahahaha I remember that tale!  Hope you're planning to gaffer tape them on this year? image

Claire2 - go girl - I will be there in spirit, sat on your shoulder, egging you on!

I tripped on a tree root under the pile of leaves we had to wade thru last year (going uphill I may add) and some helpfully chappie hoiked me up by the back of my vest before I'd even hit the ground - he was my hero that day! Moral of the story - watch out for leaves - they're evil aned hide stuff from you! image

only way i'll go this year Sleepy is if my 10k is called off.

My club thought i was a right blagger...losing the shoe there, and having a shoe whipped off in the water at Tadley...and having to waste time putting it back on.

    Ho hum.

Sleepy, you were lucky to be running that close to people!

Last bit on Handy Cross, first yearI ran it, in about 06 i think, I was so mashed by the last hill, i found i could walk it quicker than i was plodding!

It's the way you know you're pretty much at the end, but then they suddenly send you up the hill, and round the back for another mile!

  • How did everyone get on today? It was a tough one with the hills and lots of mud, but I was happy to finish a minute quicker than last year! image
  • More or less bang on for last years time, which I'm fine with after dreadful trianing and a whole week out letting my knee heal after Sandhurst, and conditions were very muddy.

    37.18 today, 37.20 last year, 43.21 in 2010

    Great effort to improve Claire.

  • Thanks Sprint, I thought I had run the same time but checked when I got home and realised I was quicker so I was pleased with that image.  Well done to you too, sounds like you had a good run, and have really progressed since your time in 2010!
