Oh and if your from around these parts this place might be useful at some point Exile best place for stuff this side of the hill's unless you want to go to manchester run by a very nice man called alex. link
Yay! Just managed 5 laps of Bristol Open Water, so that's 3900m. This was without wettie, and a confirmed iceberg like me didn't even get cold. It's not near Yorkshire, sorry.
Many thanks Cake. I might just bite the bullet and join Wakey or the Leeds Bradford club (the latter do some training sessions at my gym which may help further with my swimming).
it transpires that my research that lead me to believe that Pugneys was the only place you could swim without joining (even if it does work out more expensive) was correct. I was paranoid I would be the odd one out in the different colour hat but there was loads of non members present when I went there.
I don't suppose you know how long the swimming loop is at Pugneys do you?
Heading to Mytchett on Sunday and doing it sans wetsuit, it's more than warm enough.
Caz where are you doing the swim camp? Sounds like you are having a great time although how anywhere can be 9 degrees with all the hot weather is a surprise.
Exile I can't remember off hand I think it's about 500 metres but not sure I'll check next time I'm down.If you see a blue skoda down there with a pirate sticker in the window will my better halfs car mate so please say hello if you spot us.
hi. just been reading up on the yorkshire swim options...dont suppose you can point out any a little further south in derbyshire? just entered leeds standard and its an open water job. any advice would be great. thanks
Hi Blisters. not too great that i know of. there the river wye although most of that sems pretty shallow around here, and plenty of reservoirs around the area
If your a conpleate novice you might find the 1500 race a little challenging but it's a friendly race and cheap. Good experiance to get you in the mood.
Kate, the pirate hat wearer in Heron this morning was probably Trogs. The water was lovely without wetsuits. Although the gunge collection in the swimsuit was a bit

Not had a single glass of wine so far and the cider is rubbish. I've eaten a lot of cake though, Cake. Going to a cake party tonight

I shall do. I haven't been over since just before the Great East Swim was cancelled, but I intend to go over a few times in the near future.
I will be easy to spot - I will be the one in a cheap diving branded wetsuit as opposed to a swimming one
No worries I will be the urgy fat bloke next to a really small lady.
ITB, I've been in Ireland. Water was 9 degrees on day 1 but warmed up to about 16 by the end of the 9 days. You could feel the difference each day

What's the river situation like, Noz?
Hi Blisters. not too great that i know of. there the river wye although most of that sems pretty shallow around here, and plenty of reservoirs around the area
My geography isn't great, but is the Dove close to Derby? I believe there are swimmers that go in there on a regular basis
just found it around ashbourne? (quite close to derby)
I've just been in Thorpe sans wetsuit and it was lovely and for once there were more people without than with.
EP I'll be at Market Bosworth with my new hat too, also sans wetsuit
I saw a pirate hat at Heron this morning, sans wetsuit for me next time in, it was boiling.
Noz depending where you are you might find these interesting. http://www.madswimming.org/events/mad-open-meets-only.html

ellesmere mere was 25 last night - felt a bit of a fraud in my wetsuit
